2013 Indoor (Junior): Barela ran the 400m, 600m and the 1-mile for the Aggies for the majority of the 2013 indoor track and field season. Barela posted her best 800m time at the Don Kirby Open (Feb. 9) when she marked a time of 2:25.42. Barela ran the 1-mile at the New Mexico Cherry and Silver Invitational (Jan. 18) and the 600m at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 1).
2012 Cross Country (Junior): Barela ran four events for the Aggies in the 2012 cross country season. Barela posted her best time at the Grand Canyon Invitational (Oct. 6) when she ran a time of 19:50.2 in the 5K, finishing eighth for NM State and 30th overall. Barela's best overall and team finish came at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational (Sept. 7) when she finished seventh for NM State and 10th overall with a time of 19:55.46 in the 5K. Barela also competed in the Lobo Invitational (Aug. 31) and the Kachina Classic (Sept. 15).
2012 Outdoor (Sophomore): Barela was listed as an Academic All-WAC athlete in 2012. Barela ran a series of middle distance and distance events for the Aggies in the 2012 outdoor season, ranging from the 400m to the 5,000m. Barela posted career-best times in the 400m and the 5,000m during the season. Barela set her personal-best time in the 400m at the UTEP Invitational (April 14) and her best time in the 5,000m at the WAC Championships (May 8). Barela also ran the 800m and the 1,500m, posting her best 800m time at the WAC Championships and her best time in the 1,500m at the 2012 Texas State Bobcat Classic (April 27).
2012 Indoor (Sophomore): Barela was named to the Academic All-WAC team for the 2012 indoor season. She ran a multitude of events for NM State during her sophomore season. Barela posted her best time of 2:24.16 for the 800m at the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational (Jan. 27). Barela also ran the 1-mile throughout the season, posting her best time of 5:27.11 at the WAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 23). Barela also competed in the 4,000m distance medley and the 4x400m relay during the season.
2011 Cross Country (Sophomore): Barela received WAC All-Academic honors in 2011. Barela ran in seven events for the Aggies during the 2011 season. Barela posted her best finish among NM State at the Grand Canyon Invitational (Oct. 8), when she finished second for NM State and 15th overall in the 6K with a time of 19:41.15. Barela posted her season-best time at the Kachina Classic (Sept. 17) with a time of 19:19.3, good for 20th overall and eighth for NM State. Barela also posted a time of 19:35.8 at the WAC Championships (Oct. 29), placing her sixth for NM State and 23rd overall.
2011 Outdoor (Freshman): Barela ran the 800m for a majority of the season, posting a season-best time of 2:16.81 at the Bobcat Invitational (April 30). Not a single one of her 800m times went over 2:21. Barela also ran the 4x400 Relay three times during the season, posting a season-best time of 3:58.62 at the Bobcat Invitational. Barela ran the 1,500m twice during the season, posting a season-best time of 4:55.10 at the 2011 Willie Williams Classic (March 18).
2011 Indoor (Freshman): Barela spent her freshman season running in many middle distance and distance events for the Aggies. Barela ran the 800m four times, posting times of 2:28.07 or better in each race. Barela's best time for the 800m came at the WAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 24), when she posted a time of 2:19.90. Barela also ran a 600m in 1:45.07 at the New Mexico Cherry and Silver Invitational (Jan. 21), to open up her collegiate career. Barela also participated in the 4x400m relay throughout the season, posting a season-best time of 4:04.53 at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic & Combined on (Feb. 4).
2010 Cross Country (Freshman): Barela ran with the cross country competition squad as a freshman. Barela ran in three regular season meets, as well as the WAC Championships. Barela placed 37th overall and eighth among NM State at the Lobo Invitational with a time of 20:05.8 in the 5K. Barela placed 22nd overall and seventh among NM State at the Kachina Classic with a time of 19:45.0 in the 5K. Barela also competed in the Paul Short Invitational with top runners from schools all over the country, posting a time of 23:46. Barela competed in the WAC Championships, placing ninth for NM State with a time of 20:09.8.
High School: Barela was a four-year letter winner in track and field, a 1-year letter winner in cross country and a three-year letter winner in soccer at St. Pius X High School in Albuquerque, N.M. Barela also garnered first team all-district in cross country and first team all-district, all-metro and all-state in soccer. Barela was also a member of the 2007 state champion track and field squad at St. Pius X.
Personal: Barela is the daughter of Jon and Regina Barela. Barela was born in Albuquerque, N.M., and is majoring in business.
