Biography
2011 (Junior): De La Torre competed in 11 tournaments for the Aggies in 2010-11, averaging a 73.33 strokes per round average, while recording 11 rounds of even or under par golf during the season. He was named a second team All-WAC selection for the second straight season, helping the Aggies to their fourth straight WAC title. De La Torre had four top-5 and four top-10 finishes in 2010-11, including his first career individual win at the Rice Intercollegiate (Feb./21-22), where he fired a three-round score of 9-under par, 207. The Aggies would also win that tournament as a team. He would also record his lowest round of the season at that tournament, a 5-under par, 67. De La Torre finished tied for third at the Mark Simpson Invitational (Sept./27-28) with a 4-under par, 212. He would be the only NM State golfer to record a three-round under par score at the 2011 WAC Championship (May/2-4) with a 1-under par, 215, placing fourth overall.
Sophomore: De La Torre played in all 13 tournaments for the Aggies in 2009-10, helping his team to its third-straight WAC Championship (5/3-5) and a trip to the 2010 NCAA Southwest Regional (5/20-22). He averaged 73.57 strokes per round on the season, recording 10 rounds of even or under par and a low round of 68. De La Torre was named a second team All-WAC selection. His best finish of the season came at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (4/5-6), as he led the Aggies with a three-round score of 3-over par, 213. De La Torre tied for 18th overall at the Turtle Bay College Invitational with a 3-over par, 219. He again led the Aggies at the Wolf Pack Classic (10/5-6) carding a 2-over par, 218, tying for 21st overall. At the WAC Championship, De La Torre finished tied for 28th, recording a three-round score of 11-over par, 227. He followed that performance up by tying for 54th at the 2010 NCAA Southwest Regional, carding a 14-over par, 230. De La Torre was also named an Academic All-WAC selection as well in 2009-10.
Freshman: De La Torre saw action in 12 of the Aggies' 13 tournaments in 2008-09. He helped NM State win its third WAC Championship in four years and advance to the 2009 NCAA Southwest Regional Tournament. De La Torre finished the season with a 74.67 strokes per round average, recording seven rounds at even par or better, as well as a low round of 70 at the Wolf Pack Classic (10/6-7). He also finished the season with two top 20 performances, one top 10 finish and a one top 5 finish. In his first collegiate tournament, De La Torre placed 23rd overall at the 2008 Ron Moore Invitational (9/14-15) with a three-round score of 2-over par. He led the Aggies at the Adams Cup of Newport (9/22-23) with a score of 8-over par, placing 20th. At the 2009 WAC Championships, De La Torre tied for fourth overall with a three-round score of even par, his best finish of the season. In the 2009 NCAA Southwest Regional tournament, De La Torre placed 50th overall with a score of 18-over par.
High School: De La Torre was a four-year letterwinner for Hockinson High School in Brush Prairie, Wash. As a freshman, De La Torre won both the league and district championships. As a sophomore, junior and senior, De La Torre won the state championship, while earning first team all-league honors. He was named the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Region Player of the Year. As a senior, his nine-hole stroke average was 33.5 strokes.
Personal: De La Torre is the son of Miguel and Mariana De La Torre. He is majoring in government.
