Biography

Junior: Madigan was named the 2010 WAC Player of the Year after winning the 2010 WAC Championship (5/3-5) individual title with a three-round score of 14-under par, 202. Madigan also earned first team All-WAC honors, helping NM State to its third straight WAC Championship. In round one of the tournament, Madigan recorded an 8-under par, 64, tying the Rio Secco Golf Course record, one he now shares with Tiger Woods. Madigan played in 11 tournaments in 2009-10, recording a 71.60 scoring per round average, as well as 18 rounds at even or under par, eight top 20 finishes, three top 10 finishes and three top 5 finishes. At the William H. Tucker (9/11-12), Madigan finished fifth overall with a three-round score of 5-under par, 211. He finished first at the Aggies' home tournament, the Herb Wimberley Intercollegiate (10/26-27), firing a 9-under par, 204, recording three rounds of under par golf. Madigan then finished in the top 25 in the next four tournaments. He finished 15th at the Turtle Bay College Invitational (11/2-4), 16th at the Border Olympics (3/5-6), 11th at the Barona Collegiate (3/25-26), 25th at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (4/5-6) and 19th at the 64th Western Intercollegiate (4/17-18). Helping his team to the 2010 NCAA Southwest Regional in San Diego, Madigan again led the Aggies with a three-round score of 4-over par, 220, tying for 11th overall. Madigan was also named an Academic All-WAC selection and a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Sophomore: Madigan was one of the most solid golfers for the Aggies in 2008-09, competing in all 13 tournaments and averaging 74.79 strokes per round on the season. He tallied nine rounds of even or better, including a low round of 69 at the Wolf Pack Classic. Madigan also recorded five top 20 finishes, one top 10 finish and a top 5 performance as well. Madigan helped the Aggies to their second straight WAC Championship and an appearance at the 2009 NCAA Southwest Regional. His best tournament of the year came at the Wolf Pack Classic (10/6-7), where he placed in a tie for seventh with a three-round score of 4-under par. At the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate (10/27-28), Madigan carded a three-round score of 3-over par. He recorded a 1-under par at the Barona Classic (3/16-17), placing him in a tie for 11th overall. Madigan followed that performance at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate (3/23-24) with a 10-over par 226, placing 16th. He then led the Aggies at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate (3/30-31) placing in a tie for 32nd. At the 2009 WAC Championships (4/27-29), Madigan placed 20th overall with a three-round score of 10-over par. He placed 60th at the 2009 NCAA Southwest Regional (5/14-15).

Freshman:  Madigan had arguably the best freshman season ever at NM State.  He played in 13 tournaments and averaged 73.31 strokes per round in 39 rounds of play.  There were four rounds where he shot in the 60s including a 68 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional Tournament.  Madigan earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors for his play to go along with second team All-WAC honors.  His best finish was a tie for second at the Stevinson Ranch Invitational (4/7-8) in Stevinson, Calif. Madigan carded rounds of 74-71-70 for a 1-under-par 215.  He was one of only four players to score under par in that tournament.  He had seven top 20 finishes during the season and his first came at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate (9/24-25) in Manhattan, Kan., when he tied for eighth with rounds of 76-75-72 for a 7-over-par 223.  Madigan followed that with another top 20 finish at the Wolf Pack Classic (10/8-9) in Reno, Nev.  He scored rounds of 70-73-72 for a 1-under-par 215 and a tie for 13th.  At the Border Olympics (3/14-15) in Laredo, Texas, Madigan tied for eighth with rounds of 74-71-72 for a 1-over-par 217.  That was one of his five top 10 finishes.  Madigan was the best player for NM State at the Ron Moore Invitational (3/21-23) in Goodyear, Ariz., with a 10th-place finish and rounds of 72-69-69 for a 6-under-par 210.  He was the top finisher for the Aggies for the third straight tournament when he tied for fifth at the PING Golf Cougar Classic (4/18-19) and led NM State to its second straight team trophy.  He shot rounds of 67-72-73 for a 4-under-par 212 to tie with former Aggie Matt Edwards.  At the NCAA East Regional Tournament, Madigan carded rounds of 68-75-73 for a 3-over-par 216 and tied for 65th.

High School:  Madigan played golf for five years at Rio Rancho High School in Rio Rancho, N.M. under head coach Jason Black.  While there, he led the Rams to district championship wins from 2004-07 and state championships in 2005 and 2007.  Madigan was named to the all-district and all-state teams four times during his high school career, and was a two-time district champion.  His lowest scoring average while at Rio Rancho was a 71.30.  Madigan was the state champion in 2007 and he was named Player of the Year by the Albuquerque Tribune during the same year.

Personal:  Madigan is the son of Steve and Debbie Madigan.  He was born in Albuquerque, N.M., and is working towards a degree in mechanical engineering.
