Junior: Reid was one of the Aggies’ top players in 2007-08 as he played in all 13 tournaments for the team. Reid, a 2008 second team All-WAC selection and a division I PING all-region selection, led the way for NMSU at its home tournament, the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Reid fired rounds of 70-72-66 for a 5-under-par 208 and a tie for fifth, his best finish of the year. The 66 he carded in round three was one of four rounds he scored in the sixties, while he was the Aggies’ leading scorer as he averaged a team low, 72.74 per round. Reid started the season off with one of his seven top-20 finishes at the William H. Tucker Invitational (9/14-15) in Albuquerque, N.M. There he tied for 19th and was NMSU’s top finisher with scores of 76-71-74 for a 5-over-par 221. At the Jim Colbert Intercollegitate (9/24-25) in Manhattan, Kan., Reid picked up the first of four top-10 finishes with rounds of 76-74-74 for an 8-over-par 224 and tied for 10th. He then followed that with a tie for 17th at the Wolf Pack Classic (10/8-9) in Reno, Nev. with a 1-over-par 217 to help NMSU to a fourth place finish out of 19 teams. He fired rounds of 70-72-75 there. At the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate (10/29-30) in Las Cruces, Reid was the top-finisher for NMSU once again and carded scores of 70-72-66. At the Border Olympics (3/14-15) in Laredo, Texas, Reid tied fellow Aggie Tim Madigan for eighth with rounds of 68-73-76 for a 1-over-par 217. Reid shot a total 15 rounds at or under par in the 2007-08 season, which included the three rounds at the NCAA DI East Regional Tournament where he carded rounds of 72-67-70 for a 4-under-par 209 to tie for 17th. Before that, Reid tied for 11th at the WAC Championships with three more rounds at even or under par to help the Aggies to their second WAC Championship in three years.
Sophomore: Reid, who transferred to New Mexico State to play for the men’s golf team, made an immediate impact for the Aggies in 2006-07. He played in 11 of 12 tournaments for NMSU, while he averaged 73.15 strokes per round in 32 rounds of play. He had the most rounds at or under par with 16 in 2006-07. He had the lowest round on the team when he fired a 66 at the PING Golf Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah and held the lead for the first day of the tournament. In Aggies home tournament, the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Reid tied for sixth carding rounds of 72-71-70 for a 3-under-par 213. Only one other Aggie finished better that he did in that tournament. He came up with another top-10 finish in the very next tournament, the University of Hawai’i Intercollegiate, when he finished tied for ninth with a 2-over-par 218. Reid was the top-finisher for the Aggies in the final three tournaments of the season starting with the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate where a shot rounds of 69-70-73 for a 4-under-par 212 and a tie for 26th. In the PING Golf Cougar Classic, where Reid had the best round of the season, he finished in a tie for 20th firing a 1-under-par 215. He rounded out his great season of play with a tie for eighth at the Western Athletic Conference Championships after he carded an even-par 216. He fired 18 birdies during the three-day event and was great on par-5 holes shooting 4-under-par on those holes. He was the only Aggie to place in the top-10 in the WAC Championships.
Freshman: Reid played six tournaments at the varsity level and two tournaments at the junior varsity level while he was a freshman at the University of New Mexico. His lowest score came at the John Burns Intercollegiate where he shot rounds of 72-72-67?211. The 67 in round three of that tournament was also Reid’s lowest round of the season. At the junior varsity level, Reid’s best showing was at the Pioneer Classic where he fired rounds of 69-75-72?215, earning 11th place.
High School: Reid graduated from Clovis High School in 2005, and competed there for four years. He was an all-state selection in 2002, 2003 and 2004, while winning the individual state championship in 2004. Reid was also an all-district selection from 2001-04 and a member of four district championship teams. He was the district co-champion as a sophomore.
Personal: Travis was born on Sept. 8, 1986, and is the son of Greg and Sandra Reid.
