Biography

Sophomore (2007-08): de Mucha was one of four Aggies to win over 10 singles matches in the 2008 dual match season, as he finished the year with a 10-6 record. He went 1-1 at No. 5 singles and 9-5 at No. 6. de Mucha won his quarterfinal match at the WAC Championships over Nevada’s Augustin Myard, 6-3, 6-1 to help the Aggies advance to the semifinals. He finished the season winning seven out of his last nine matches. Another one of his big singles victory came on Feb. 22 over Joe Wood from in-state rival and 57th-ranked New Mexico. In doubles action de Mucha teamed up with three different partners to post a 9-8 record. He was 4-3 with Stefan McKinney, 4-5 with Gustave Diep and 1-0 with Jim Brouleau. In the fall tournament season, de Mucha and McKinney went 9-3 together and had several big showings. They were co-champions with another Aggie doubles team at the UNM Balloon Fiesta Classic on Oct. 7 and they made it to the championship match of the B doubles draw at the prestigious H.E.B Baylor Invitational on Sept. 24. Overall on the year, de Mucha had a 18-11 singles record and a 18-11 doubles record.

 

Freshman (2006-07): de Mucha competed across the singles board for the Aggies in his freshman season, compiling a 10-10 record. He was 1-0 at the third singles spot, 1-1 at No. 4, 7-5 at the fifth position and 1-4 at No. 6. In a March 3 loss to No. 74 Sacramento State, de Mucha picked up the only team point for the Aggies with his three-set victory at the No. 6 singles position where he came back to win the match after losing the first set. He went 3-0 against WAC opponents excluding the 2007 WAC Championships, but he and Gustave Diep won their No. 3 doubles match over Nevada’s pair, 8-3, to help NMSU win the doubles point against the Wolf Pack at the conference championships. He finished the spring season with a 9-9 doubles record. In the fall tournament season, de Mucha went 8-8 in singles play and 2-6 in doubles action. His overall record from both the fall and spring in his freshman year was 18-18 in singles and 11-14 in doubles.

 

Prior to NMSU: de Mucha was the 2006 Mexican National Champion in both singles and doubles play. He was a finalist in the singles and doubles matches in the Cuba ITF Tournament and he reached the semifinals of the ITF Guadalajara and the ITF Tampico Tournaments. In 2005, de Mucha reached the semifinals in both singles and doubles at the Mexican Nationals and had a Top 10 ranking. His last two years prior to coming to NMSU, he was a member of the Mexican National Team and received the academic award in student development from Tech Monterrey.

 

Personal: de Mucha was born in Guadalupe, NL, Mexico and is the son of Araceli Trevino Buajardo and Alejandro de Mucha Apango. He is majoring in industrial engineering.
