Biography

2016-17: Spring: Had a stellar junior season and claimed the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors with a staggering 26-6 overall record in singles play and 22-8 mark in doubles action – all at the top position…also earned First-Team All-WAC honors for both singles and doubles in addition to WAC All-Tournament Team honors in singles…finished WAC play with a perfect 5-0 record, helping NM State to its third-straight regular-season title…named WAC Player of the Week three times in the spring and WAC Player of the Month twice in the fall…ended the spring season with a 10-match winning-streak…clawed back to defeat Arthur Libaud from Louisiana (3/26) 7-5, 3-6, 6-4…bested Saint Mary’s (3/11) Nash Vollenweider 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 and Nevada’s (3/12) Julien Evrard 6-3, 6-1…defeated UMKC’s (4/30) top singles player 6-3, 6-2 in the WAC Championship match. Fall: Went 10-2 during the fall season – including a the top singles flight championship at the Balloon Fiesta Tournament (10/7-9)…kicked off the 2016-17 season with back-to-back finals appearances in his respective singles flights…took home the doubles crown at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational (9/23-25) with teammate Luis Flores…followed up with the doubles championship at the Balloon Fiesta Tournament as well…defeated UNM’s top doubles team in the process.

2015-16: Spring: Earned First-Team All-WAC honors in singles after posting a 23-9 overall record and 5-0 mark conference play…clinched the WAC Tournament championship for NM State for the second-straight year...won 10-straight matches to end the season and went 9-0 in his last 10 matches…win-streak started on March 11 with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Igor Kolaric of Hawaii (3/11) and ended with a 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 win over Andrey Smirnov of UMKC (5/1) at No. 2 singles to clinch the WAC title and send the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament…now 4-0 when playing in the WAC Tournament. Fall: Had a hot start to the fall season, racking up an 11-2 singles record…opend the year defeating Grand Canyon’s Mitch Maroscher 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the championship match of the Aggie Invitational to claim his first title of the year…after dropping his first match of the Arizona Invitational, followed up with a pair of wins to wrap up the tournament…won his sixth-straight match when he bounced No. 40 New Mexico’s top singles player, Augustus Ge, 6-2, 6-3 to notch his second singles title of the season…defeated Northern Arizona’s Lucas Taylor due to retirement (led 2-1) to advance to the round of 32 at the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional Championships…went just 3-9 in doubles play in the fall…picked up two wins at the Aggie Invitational with Donovan Cellupica-Towers before falling to NM State’s Liam Goldberg and Strahinja Trecakov 8-4 in the semifinals…third doubles win came in the opening round of the Balloon Fiesta Invite over Abilene Christian’s pair, 8-3.
 
2014-15: Claimed the final and decisive win in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament against UT-Pan American to give NM State its first ever conference tournament title…was named WAC Freshman of the Year, earned first-team honors in singles was named to the Second-Team All-WAC doubles team with Patrick Pfister…finished the spring season with a 10-11 record and won eight in the No. 3 spot…claimed first collegiate victory in a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Cooper Bridge of UC Riverside… also teamed-up with Paul Denele for his first doubles win in the same match, coming out on top 6-3 over UCR’s Julian Ruffin and Hans Baumstark…concluded freshman campaign with a 10-10 doubles record, including a 9-4 record with Pfister…the top Aggie duo defeated top-ranked Oklahoma’s pair of Spencer Papa and Dane Webb in the first round of the NCAA Regionals.  

Prior to NM State:  Was the No. 1 junior player in Venezuela at the U16 level...was ranked No. 262 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
 
Personal: Son of Moises and Marylin Goncalves…has two older brothers, Moises and Samuel…majoring in finance.
