Biography

2012-13 (Junior): Going 16-17 in singles play on the year, Westgate finished his junior season with a 10-11 record during spring play. He saw action primarily at the third and fourth courts, but began the season with two matches at No. 1 and three at court two. Westgate won seven matches at the third position, including a two-set win against Jared Fellows of 36th-ranked St. Mary’s and two conference wins. He went 3-4 in WAC play with his first league win coming at UT Arlington in three sets. He had three straight wins during tournament play in the fall with two coming at the ITA All-American Championship Pre-Qualifier and one at the UNM Balloon Fiesta Invitational. Doubles proved to be the strongpoint in Westgate’s junior season with the Aggies. He worked to a 19-10 record, playing all but four matches with senior partner Luis Ramirez. The pair went on a four-match win streak at the top spot during February and March and topped the No. 1 pair from No. 72 New Mexico with a 9-8 (7-3) decision. The duo also won three straight during the fall, including the quarter and semifinals matches of the UNM Balloon Fiesta Invitational. They made the semifinal round of the NM State-hosted Aggie Invitational with two wins to start the season.

Sophomore (2011-2012): Westgate competed in singles competition for the first time as an Aggie in his sophomore campaign posting a 9-13 record and went 3-2 in WAC play.  Westgate ended his sophomore season strong with a three-match win streak to close out the season in April.  In doubles competition, Westgate teamed with Felipe Frattini to start the season going 7-7 overall and 2-1 in WAC play; he went 5-3 and 1-1 in WAC play when he teamed with Luis Ramirez.

Freshman (2010-11): Westgate played only in doubles during his freshman campaign to help the Aggies advance to the WAC Championship match.  He completed the year with an 8-9 record all in the spring.  He went 4-5 with departed senior Arthur Surreaux; 2-2 with Luis Ramirez and 0-1 with Matej Stakne.

Prior to NM State: Westgate comes from a sporting family as his father is the director of sport and his mother a tennis coach. Westgate competed on the junior circuit prior to his arrival in Las Cruces.

Personal: Westgate is from Loughborough, England, and is the son of Paul and Julie Westgate.
