Biography
2005-06 (JUNIOR): Beg was named to the 2006 All-WAC Men’s Tennis second team for both his singles play and his doubles play with teammate Brice Magnanou. Earned 2006 Academic All-WAC Team honors with his 3.69 grade point average in international business and finance. He was named WAC Player of the Month for September. During that month he went 3-1 in singles play while advancing to the semifinals of the Aggie Invitational, Sept. 16-18. Beg was named Xbox Live WAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Feb. 6-12, when he went undefeated in his three singles and doubles matches. Throughout the spring he split time at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position and merited a 12-8 overall record (he went 6-4 at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position). He was 12-8 at the No. 1 doubles spot with his primary teammate and 1-0 with partner Ricardo Gorostiaga. In the 2006 WAC Championships, Beg won his quarterfinal doubles match against Utah State, 8-6, but his team fell to Boise State in the semifinals, 8-5. In the fall, Beg had a 6-7 singles record and a 7-4 doubles record, which was highlighted by a second place finish at the Arizona State University Invitational.
2004-05 (SOPHOMORE): Beg was named to the ITA All-Academic Scholar Athlete list for his academic success during the year. He finished his sophomore year with the best record on the men’s team as he compiled a record of 14-12 overall and 11-7 in dual matches while playing positions two through six. Beg went 5-4 at the No. 2 position, 1-0 at the No. 3 position, 4-1 at the No. 4 position, 0-2 at the No. 5 and 1-0 at the No. 6 position. He won 13 of those matches in straight sets and won six of eight matches from Jan. 23 - Feb. 26. In doubles play, Beg finished 4-13 with several partners including Luis Avila, Jorge Williams and Christian Halligan.
2003-04 (FRESHMAN): Beg was a solid player in the No. 4 and No. 5 positions going 5-1 and 4-2, respectively. He also saw time at the No. 2 position where he was 0-1 and at the No. 3 position he was 4-4. Beg played doubles with three different partners going a combined 12-12. His best overall doubles record was with Halligan, as the pair went 8-5.
PRIOR TO NMSU: Beg, a native of Croatia, was ranked No. 1 in Croatia from 1999 to 2001. In 2000, Beg won the National Croatian Championship and the European Tennis Association National Championship.
PERSONAL: Beg was born in Rab, Croatia and is the son of Jasna and Kruno Beg. His major is international business and finance.
