Biography

2012 Cross Country (Senior): Mata ran in three events for the Aggies in the 2012 cross country season.  Mata posted her season-best time at the Kachina Classic (Sept. 15).  Mata also competed in the Lobo Invitational (Aug. 31) and the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational (Sept. 7). 

2012 Outdoor (Junior): Mata was selected to receive WAC All-Academic honors in 2012.  Mata competed in the 1,500m and the 5,000m spanning four events for the Aggies in the 2012 outdoor season.  Mata ran her best 1,500m time at the New Mexico Tailwind Invitational (April 6) and her best 5,000m time at the 2012 Willie Williams Classic (March 16).

2012 Indoor (Sophomore): Mata was named to the academic all-WAC team in 2012.  Mata ran the 3,000m and the 1-mile for the Aggies in the 2012 indoor season.  Mata posted her best time in the 3,000m and the 1-mile in the season opener at the Texas Tech Open (Jan. 13).  Mata also ran the 5,000m at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 3).

2011 Cross Country (Sophomore): Mata was one of the Aggies to receive All-Academic Honors for the WAC in 2011.  Mata ran in four events for the Aggies in the 2011 season.  Mata posted her best time of 21:41.0 in the 6K at the Grand Canyon Invitational (Oct. 8).  Mata also ran in the Lobo Invitational (Sept. 3), Lori Fitzgerald Invitational (Sept. 10), and the Kachina Classic (Sept. 17).

2010 Outdoor (Freshman): Mata did not compete during the outdoor season.


2010 Indoor (Freshman): Mata ran the 3,000m for NM State during the 2010 season.


2009 Cross Country (Freshman): Mata ran in two races for the Aggies.  Her best time and finish occurred at the Dual in the Desert against UNM, where she placed 12th overall.  She ran unattached in both meets she participated in.


High School: Mata competed in cross country and track and field for Oñate High School and lettered in both sports all four years. Mata was the captain of her track team from 2007-09 and captain of the Knights cross country squad as a junior and senior. She helped her senior cross country team to a third-place finish in district. Mata attended the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic regional and national cross country meet while in high school and competed internationally as well.


Personal: Mata is the daughter of Josefina and Jesus Mata. Her mother is a former member of the Aggies cross country team. She is majoring in art.
