Biography

2013 Indoor (Freshman): Chavez competed in distance events for the Aggies in the 2013 indoor track and field season.  Chavez ran the 5,000m more than any event during the season, posting her best time at the WAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 21), finishing with the 17th best time in the conference.  Chavez also ran the 3,000m at the WAC Championships as well.  Chavez competed in shorter events earlier in the season, running the 800m and the 1-mile at the New Mexico Cherry and Silver Invitational (Jan. 18).  Chavez also participated in the 4,000m distance medley at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 1).

2012 Cross Country (Freshman): Chavez competed in every event for the Aggies in the 2012 cross country season as a freshman.  Chavez posted two of her best overall finishes at the Lobo Invitational (Oct. 31) and the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational (Sept. 7).  Chavez finished seventh overall and third for NM State at the Lobo Invitational with a time of 19:09.5 and finished seventh overall and fourth for NM State at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational, both in the 5K.  Chavez also finished strong in the Kachina Classic (Sept. 15) where she finished sixth for NM State and 13th overall with a time of 19:12.  In the Grand Canyon Invitational (Oct. 6), Chavez finished third for NM State and ninth overall with a time of 19:03.5.  Chavez finished fifth for NM State at the Rim Rock Invitational (Sept. 29) and eighth for NM State at the WAC Championships (Oct. 27).  At the Bronco Invitational (Oct. 13), Chavez finished fourth for NM State and 48th overall with a time of 18:03.9, which was also her season-best time for the 5K.   Chavez concluded the season at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships when she finished fourth for NM State with a time of 23:56.8 in the 6K.

High School: Chavez ran cross country and track at Eisenhower High School in Yakima, Wash.  In 2010 Chavez helped her cross country team win the league championship, district championship and the state championship.  Chavez was also named as CBNN Female Runner of the Year and first team All-Conference. 

Personal: Chavez was born in Yakima, Wash., and is the daughter of Mania Aguilar.  She plans to major in criminal justice.
