2006: A Second Team All-WAC honoree, Hilva played every inning of all 49 games at first base as a senior, batting .264 with six home runs and 22 RBI and co-leading the team in walks (17) while doing so. She captured the XBox Live WAC Player of the Week Award for February 20 after blasting four home runs, three of which came in a doubleheader sweep of I-10 rivals UTEP, and driving in 12 runs. With 566 putouts in her two-year career, Hilva ranks third in NMSU history. She also finished her Aggie playing days ranked third in career slugging percentage (.443) and tied for third in career on-base percentage (.373).
2005: Hilva played in all 60 games for the Aggies, making 59 starts. She batted .278, the third-highest average on the team, with four home runs and 19 RBI. The home run total ranked her third on the team while her RBI total ranked her fourth. Hilva was second on the team in slugging average (.449) and walks (30) and was one of the three players on the squad to hit a triple. Hilva proved to be an outstanding fielder, making just one error in 384 chances for a .997 fielding percentage. For her play she earned All-Sun Belt Second Team honors.
Previous School: Hilva attended Midland Community College for two years before coming to NMSU. During her freshman year, she was selected to participate in the Canada Cup. In 2003 and 2004, Hilva was selected as a NJCAA All Star, All American, All Region and All Conference. Also in the 2003-2004 season, Mailei was named Offensive Player of the Year.
High School: Hilva is a graduate of Ramona High School in Riverside, California. During her junior and senior year, Hilva was named Offensive Player of the Year, Pepsi Player of the Year and Scholar Athlete.
Personal: Mailei Hilva was born in Riverside, California and is the daughter of Ryan and Christine Hilva. She is majoring in History.
