Junior (2007): She started all but two games for the Aggies in 2007 and 53 of her 56 starts were at third base. A Second Team All-WAC honoree, she led the team with her .371 batting average, scored 31 runs, drove in 16 runs while stealing 19 bases in 25 attempts on the year, good for second in the conference. Her 69 hits was the second most in Aggie history for a single season and it was the fourth most in the conference. From March 3 through March 30, Herrera had a 19-game hitting streak that was the longest in the conference and is believed to be tied for the fourth longest in the nation. Her 17 multi-hit games on the year tied for the eighth most in the WAC and she tied the NMSU record for most hits in a game when she had four hits in five at-bats against St. Mary’s College on March 19 in the first game of a doubleheader. She had seven games in 2007 where she had three hits or more and had four multi-RBI games. Her 94 defensive assists led the team and she tied for the team lead in sacrifice hits with five. Up until Apr. 20, Herrera was flirting with batting .400 as she attempted to become the first player in program history to hit .400 on a year and she finished with the third best average by an Aggie ever. In a 7-4 victory over Colorado State on Feb. 10, Herrera went 2-for-4 with two RBI and hit her only home run of the season. Also on Feb. 10, this time against Sam Houston State, Herrera tied her career-high by driving in three runs. The speedy third baseman tied her career best for stolen bases in a game with the three she had against UTEP in game one of a doubleheader on March 14. 
 
Sophomore (2006): Herrera was named the Xbox Live WAC Player of the Week for Feb. 13 after batting .615 in five games. She started at shortstop in 46 of NMSU’s 49 games in 2006. She led the team with a .328 batting average and stole a league-leading 12 bases. Collecting 12 RBI on the year, she had a .390 on-bas percentage and defensively recorded 51 assists, good for second on the team. Her three stolen bases against Louisiana Tech on Apr. 1 was the most any player had in the WAC. She hit her first career home run in the season-opening, 4-0, win over Colorado State when she drove in a career-high three runs. In an Apr. 30 loss to Utah, Herrera had a season-high three hits when she went 3-for-3 form the plate with one double and one run scored.
 
Freshman (2005): Herrera appeared in 43 games as a freshman, making 24 starts. She collected eight bas hits and two RBI with 13 runs scored. Herrera was successful on all three of her stolen base attempts, on of only two players on the team not to be caught stealing once all season.
 
High School: Stephanie attended Pecos High School in Pecos, Texas. Herrera earned several honors in softball, track, volleyball and basketball. She was named to the West Texas All-Star and All-State All-Star Team for softball in 2004.
 
Academics: She is majoring in journalism and mass communication and minoring in communications and community health. She was named a Who’s Who Student-Athlete and was a member of the National Honor Society in high school.
 
Personal: Herrera was born in Monahans, Texas and is the daughter of Alvaro and Connie Herrera from Pecos, Texas. In the fall, Herrera is a sports reporter for the Round Up, New Mexico State’s student newspaper.
