2011-12 (Junior): Cate continued to write her name in the Aggie record books as a junior. At the 2012 WAC Championships, she broke her own school record in the 200 butterfly (2:02.00) with a third-place finish. Cate was also a member of the 200-medley relay (1:41.48) that set a new program record and earned runner-up honors. Additionally, Cate posted season-best times at the conference meet in the 100 fly (56.01) and 200 individual medley (2:04.23). She scored for the Aggies with a sixth-place finish in the 100 fly and seventh-place finish in the 200 IM. In dual meet action, Cate began the season with a win in the 200 IM and runner-up finish in the 500 free at TCU (Oct. 21). The following day at North Texas (Oct. 22), she collected second-place showings in the 100 fly and 500 free. Cate and the Aggies returned home and hosted Northern Colorado (Oct. 29) in the season opener, and she captured top honors in the 200 fly and 400-medley relay and was second in the 200 back. Against Northern Arizona (Dec. 3), Cate won the 200 fly and 200 IM and helped the 200-medley relay to victory. She won both the 200 IM and 400 IM and finished second in the 200 fly at the UNLV Winter Invitational (Dec. 17-19). In the home finale versus Idaho (Jan. 21), she swept the butterfly events and won the 200 IM and 200-medley relay. At in-state rival New Mexico (Feb. 4), Cate won the 200 fly and finished second in the 100 fly. She also earned Academic All-WAC honors for second straight year.
2010-11 (Sophomore): In her second season in the Crimson and White, Cate was a vital member of the Aggie squad as she competed in the butterfly, backstroke, freestyle and IM events. She set two individual school records in 2010-11. Cate broke the program records in the 100 fly (54.68) and 200 fly (2:02.63) that had stood for 10 years. She broke the 100 fly mark en route to taking third place at the WAC Championships. Additionally, Cate scored for the Aggies in the 200 IM with a seventh-place finish. Cate was also a member of three relay teams that set school records. She swam the third leg on both the 200-medley relay (1:41.63) and 400-medley relay (3:42.24) teams that finished in second place and made a NCAA 'B' cut at the WAC meet. Cate was the leadoff for the 800-free relay that set an Aggie record along with a fifth-place showing (7:26.99). In the first road meet of the year, Cate won the 200 fly and 500 free and collected second place in the 400 IM at Washington State (Nov. 5). She also won the 200 fly at the UNLV Invitational (Dec. 11-13). Cate helped the Aggies to a pair of victories at Northern Colorado (Jan. 21) and Colorado State (Jan. 22). She won the 200 back and swam the third leg of the victorious 200-medley relay team against Northern Colorado. In the team's first win over Colorado State, Cate won the 500 free and 200 fly while taking second in the 400 IM. She also claimed two individual wins in the fourth consecutive win over in-state rival New Mexico (Feb. 5) in the 200 free and 500 free. Cate also swam the third leg of the victorious 200-medley relay. Cate was named to the Academic All-WAC team.
2009-10 (Freshman): Cate made an immediate impact for the Aggies as a freshman in the butterfly, freestyle, IM and relay events. She recorded the team-best times in the 100 butterfly (56.48), 200 butterfly (2:03.75) and 200 IM (2:05.60) in 2009-10. Cate helped the Aggies to a second-place team showing at the 2010 WAC Championships. She earned sixth in the 100 fly and scored in the 200 fly and 200 IM after a pair of ninth-place finishes at the conference meet. Cate was also vital in the relays at the WAC meet, where the Aggies claimed third in the 200-medley relay, fifth in the 400-medley relay and sixth in the 800-free relay. In the home opening weekend against Northern Arizona/Northern Colorado (Oct. 31), Cate collected a second-place finish in 200 IM. She was second in the 200 free and swam leadoff for the 200-medley relay team that was third in her first rivalry meet at New Mexico/Wyoming (Nov. 14). At Arizona State (Dec. 19), Cate claimed top honors in the 500 free, second place in the 200 free and was a member of the third-place 200-medley relay. In the home finale against Idaho (Jan. 2), she took second in the 100 fly and swam leadoff for the winning 200-medley relay. At Boise State (Jan. 30), Cate finished second in the 200 fly and 500 free and was a member of the 400-medley relay that also recorded second place. She earned a spot of the Academic All-WAC Freshman/Transfer team list.
High School: Cate arrived in Las Cruces from Burien, Wash., and swam for King Aquatics and Sean Hutchinson. She was a four-time state qualifier for Highline High School in Burien, Wash. Cate owns the school record in the 100 back, and she was an all-American as a senior. In her junior campaign, Cate earned a pair of silver medals at state. As a sophomore, she finished second and third at the state meet. Additionally, Cate was a four-time most valuable player honoree for the Pirates.
Personal: Cate is the daughter of Esko and Vicki Cate, and she was born in Burien, Wash. Cate is majoring in hotel and restaurant tourism management.
