Biography

2005-06: Baur helped the 800 freestyle relay group set a school record (7:37.01) at the WAC Championships en route to a fourth place finish while also swimming on the sixth-place 400 freestyle relay. In individual events, she was eighth in the 400 individual medley, 11th in the 200 backstroke and 13th in the 100 backstroke. A strong student, Baur was named to the WAC All-Academic Team.

2004-05: At the Sun Belt Championships, Baur placed in a ninth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.10) and helped the 400 medley relay to fourth place (3:57.05). Baur also added a fifth place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:16.08) and seventh place in the 100 backstroke (1:02.32) at the Sun Belt Fall Classic. Against Northern Arizona, Baur had a second place finish in the 100-meter backstroke (1:08.73), third place in the 200-meter backstroke (2:33.22), and first place in the 200-meter individual medley (2:32.26). Baur also had three top-three finishes against New Mexico as she placed first in both the 200 backstroke (2:14.49) and 400 individual medley (4:45.19). Her last finish came in the 100 backstroke (1:01.30) as she snatched second. Throughout the season, Baur was a member of the Aggie relay teams that took several top finishes.

2003-04: Baur placed third in the 100 backstroke (59.42), fifth in the 400 individual medley (4:37.60) and ninth in the 200 butterfly (2:04.36) at the Sun Belt Championships. She was a member of the second place finishing 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays (1:36.84, 1:50.01) and third place finishing 400 and 800 freestyle relays at the Sun Belt Championships (3:32.20, 7:43.12). Baur ranked fourth overall in the Sun Belt Conference in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.42 and fifth overall in the conference in the 200 (2:09.02). She also ranked sixth overall in the 400 individual medley (4:37.60) and seventh overall in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.48.

Germany: Before coming to NMSU, Baur competed in Germany, qualifying for the national championships every year from 1996-2000. She earned two fifth and one sixth-place finish in those years. Baur also earned several second place finishes at the 2000 and 2001 Southern Germany Championships.

Personal: Ilka Marina Baur was born in Bad Mergentheim, Germany and is the daughter of Cornelia and Roland. She is majoring in journalism.
