Biography

2010-11 (Senior): Runestrand capped a successful Aggie career in 2010-11. She set season-best times at the WAC Championships in the 100 breast (1:04.84), 200 breast (2:20.96) and 200 individual medley (2:08.41). Runestrand finished in 13th place in the 100 breast, 14th place in the 200 breast and 22nd place in the 200 IM. In dual meet action, Runestrand won the 200 breast and finished in second in the 100 breast at Northern Arizona (Dec. 4). Runestrand collected a second-place showing in the 200 breast at Idaho (Nov. 6). As a versatile swimmer, Runestrand was an important member of the Aggie relay teams. She helped the 200-medley relay take third place as the second leg at NAU. Runestrand anchored the 200-medley relay to third place against New Mexico (Feb. 5). She also contributed as the second leg of the 400-medley relay that finished third at Colorado State (Jan. 22). Additionally, Runestrand earned Academic All-WAC honors for the third straight season.

2009-10 (Junior): In her third season with the Aggies, Runestrand played a significant role in the team's program-best second-place showing at the 2010 WAC Championships. She posted season-best times at the conference meet in the 100 breast (1:04.52), 200 breast (2:19.01) and 200 individual medley (2:07.03). Runestrand scored in all three events, and she finished seventh in the 100 breast, fourth in the 200 breast and 14th in the 200 IM. As a junior, she also earned WAC Athlete of the Week honors (Dec. 22) for the first time in her career after a pair of individual top honors at Arizona State (Dec. 19). Runestrand swept the breaststroke events with then season-best performances in the 100 breast (1:05.66) and 200 breast (2:21.82). In the WAC Shoot-Out (Oct. 10), she claimed third in the 200 breast. Against Northern Arizona/Northern Colorado in the home opening weekend (Oct. 31), Runestrand collected top honors in both the 100 breast and 200 breast along with a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM. At New Mexico/Wyoming (Nov. 14), she was third in the 100 breast and 200 breast, and she swam the second leg of the fourth-place 200-medley relay. Against Idaho (Jan. 2), Runestrand won the 100 breast, finished third in the 200 IM and anchored the 200-medley relay that was third in the home finale. At Boise State (Jan. 30), Runestrand won 200 breast, was fourth in the 100 breast, and she swam the third leg for the second-place 200-free relay and second leg for the fourth-place 400-medley relay. For the second consecutive season, Runestrand was named to the Academic All-WAC team.

2008-09 (Sophomore): Runestrand helped the Aggies to a third-place finish at the WAC Championships after four lifetime-best performances. She finished seventh in the 100 breast and sixth in the 200 breast along with 11th place in the 200 individual medley. Runestrand collected her first individual victory of the season in the 200 breast at San Diego (Dec. 13) and earned second in the 100 breast. She also won the 200 IM at Northern Colorado (Jan. 16). Runestrand swam in multiple relays for the Crimson and White. She was the third leg of the winning 200-free relay at Colorado State (Jan. 17). As the anchor of the 200-medley relay, Runestrand guided the Aggies to top honors in the WAC Shoot-Out (Oct. 10-11) and at Loyola Marymount (Dec. 19). Runestrand consistently scored for the Aggies, and she finished third in the 100 breast at LMU, CSU and New Mexico (Jan. 28) and second in the 200 breast at LMU and UNM. In the Aggies second consecutive over the Lobos, Runestrand recorded a runner-up finish in the 200 IM. She claimed third in the 200 breast at Houston/Rice (Nov. 6) and Northern Arizona (Dec. 6), which was the Aggies first victory in Flagstaff, Ariz. Runestrand was a member of the second place 200-free and 400-medley relays at NAU. She was named to the Academic All-WAC team for her classroom success.                   

2007-08 (Freshman): In her first season at NM State, Runestrand made an impact as a breaststroke specialist. She claimed top honors in the 200 breaststroke in three meets, versus North Texas (Jan. 8), at Boise State (Jan. 19) and at New Mexico (Jan. 31). She was also a part of the winning 800-freestyle relay versus Northern Arizona (Feb. 2). Runestrand finished in the top 15 in the 100 breast and 200 breast events at the UNLV Winter Invitational (Dec. 15-17), which was a 10-team meet. In the first win over the Lobos in more than 25 years, Runestrand set a best time (1:05.05) in the 100 breast. She also set a lifetime best with the 200 breast victory at Boise State (2:25.06), in addition she finished second in the 100 breast. At the WAC Championships, Runestrand shattered her lifetime best in the 200 breast (2:19.83) en route to collecting a fourth-place finish. Runestrand also recorded a fourth-place showing in the 800-free relay and sixth place in the 100 breast at the conference meet. Out of the pool, Runestrand was honored for her hard work in the classroom as she was named to the Academic All-WAC Freshmen team.

High School: Runestrand joined the Aggies after graduating from Squalicum High School. She led the Storm to a combined record of 33-3, three state championship appearances, two district titles and a pair of Northwest Conference crowns. She currently holds the school record in six different events, including the 100 free (53.66), 100 fly (1:01.49) and 100 breast (1:06.09). As a senior, she guided the Storm to an 8-2 record and a seventh-place finish at state. Runestrand was named the team's most valuable player after finishing third in 100 breast and fifth in the 100 free at state. She also received academic all-America and all-America honors in the 100 breast. In 2005-06, the team went 9-1 and finished second at both the league and district championships before placing 10th at the state meet. She was named the Whatcom Counties' "Swimmer of the Year" and Most Valuable Player after placing fourth at state in the 100 breast and seventh in the 200 IM. As a freshman and sophomore, Runestrand directed the Storm to a pair of league and district championships. In her sophomore campaign, Runestrand placed fifth at the state championships in the 100 breast. As a freshman, Runestrand finished 15th in state in the 100 breast.

Personal: Runestrand was born in Bellingham, Wash., and is the daughter of Kris and Sally Runestrand. She is pursuing a degree in community health.
