2011-12 (Senior): Spies capped off a successful collegiate career at NM State in 2011-12. She posted two top 15 finishes at the 2012 WAC Championships. Spies was 11th in the 200 breast and 15th in the 100 breast in her final conference meet. She recorded season-best times in the 100 breast (1:03.45) and 200 breast (2:15.17) at the Houston Invitational (Nov. 17-19). In dual meet action, Spies swept the breaststroke events against Northern Arizona (Dec. 3). She also claimed top honors in the 200 breast against Northern Colorado in the home opener (Oct. 29). For the third consecutive year, Spies garnered Academic All-WAC honors.
2010-11 (Junior): In her junior season with the Aggies, Spies continued her strong presence in the breaststroke events. At the WAC Championships, she finished fourth in the 100 breast with a NCAA 'B' cut with a season-best time (1:02.94). Spies also posted season-best performances in the 200 breast (2:18.04) and 200 individual medley (2:11.62). In dual meet action, she collected top honors in the 200 breast at Idaho (Nov. 6), Northern Colorado (Jan. 21) and Colorado State (Jan. 22). Spies won the 100 breast in the regular season finale against New Mexico (Feb. 23). She captured a pair of second-place showings in the 100 breast and 200 breast in the season opener against Boise State/North Texas (Oct. 22-23). Additionally, Spies contributed to the Aggie relays and helped secure bronze in the 200-medley relay versus UNM and 400-medley relay at Idaho as the second leg for both. Spies was also successful out of the water and earned Academic All-WAC honors.
2009-10 (Sophomore): For the second consecutive season, Spies won the 200 breaststroke at the WAC Championship. She recorded a season-best time (2:16.06), which was also an NCAA 'B' cut time. Spies helped the Aggies to a program-best second-place finish at the WAC meet after scoring in the 100 breast (1:03.49) with a fourth-place showing and season-best time. In the 200 individual medley, she also set a season-best time (2:08.82) in 18th place. Spies swam the second leg for the third-place 200-medley relay. She began her sophomore season with a sweep of the 100 breast and 200 breast at the WAC Shoot-Out (Oct. 9-10) in San Jose, Calif. She swam the second leg for the 200-medley and 400-medley relays that finished third and second, respectively, while she anchored the fourth-place 400-free relay. Against Northern Arizona/Northern Colorado (Oct. 31), Spies was third in the 200 breast, and she swam the second leg for the 400-free and 200-medley relays that finished in second place. At New Mexico/Wyoming (Nov. 14), she anchored the 400-free relay and was the second leg of the 200-medley relay, and the pair finished in third. At Arizona State (Dec. 19), Spies was third in the 100 breast and second in the 200 breast along with swimming the second leg of the third-place 200-medley relay. Against Idaho (Jan. 2), she was the second leg for the victorious 200-medley relay before taking fourth in the 100 breast and second in the 200 breast at No. 2 Arizona/Oregon State (Jan. 8). In the regular season finale at Boise State (Jan. 30), Spies won the 100 breast and finished second in the 200 breast while the 400-medley relay claimed second place with Spies as the second leg. She was also named to the Academic All-WAC team.
2008-09 (Freshman): Spies posted a highly-decorated campaign in her first season in Las Cruces. She became the first Aggie to compete at the NCAA Championships. Spies swam in both the 100 breast and 200 breast at the national meet after sweeping the events at the WAC Championships. Both of her performances at the conference meet were lifetime best, and she broke the WAC meet record in the 100 breast (1:00.98). Spies also had a personal best in the 200 IM finishing in ninth. She dominated the breaststroke events throughout the season beginning at the WAC Shoot-Out (Oct. 10-11). Spies finished first in the 200 breast, second in the 100 breast and third in the 400-medley relay in her first collegiate meet. She collected top honors in the 100 breast at Houston/Rice (Nov. 6), Northern Arizona (Dec. 6), San Diego (Dec. 13), Colorado State (Jan. 17) and New Mexico (Jan. 28). Spies swept the breast events also winning the 200 at UH/Rice, NAU, CSU and UNM. At the Mean Green Duals (Nov. 8) against meet host North Texas, SMU, CSU and Arkansas, Spies finished second in both the 100 and 200 breast. She was named the WAC Swimming Athlete of the Week (Nov. 10) for her efforts at the Mean Green Duals and UH/Rice meet. At San Diego, she scored with second place in the 200 breast, before she claimed first place in the 200 and second place in the 100 at Loyola Marymount (Dec. 19). Spies also played a significant role in the Aggie relays. She helped NM State break the school record in the 200-medley (1:41.81) and 400-medley (3:44.98) relays with a pair of third-place finishes at the WAC meet. Spies was a member of the winning 200-medley relays at San Diego and LMU. She swam in the 400-free relay finishing second at Northern Colorado (Jan. 16) and third at UH/Rice and San Diego. Spies was also successful in the classroom and she earned Academic All-WAC Freshmen team honors.
High School: Spies, from Wrist, Germany, won the 50 and 200 breast in the 18-year-old age group in 2008. Spies collected top honors in the 200 breast and a runner-up finish in the 100 in her age group in 2007. She dominated the breaststroke events in 2006 when she was a two-time junior national champion (50 and 200). Spies also won the 50 breast, 100 breast and 200 breast in the 16-year-old age group.
Personal: Spies is the daughter of Hans-Jorg and Birgit Spies and was born in Schwedt/Oder, Germany. She is majoring in physics.
