Biography

2011-12 (Senior): As a senior, Bassen concluded her Aggie career as a fixture in the freestyle and butterfly events. She posted three top 25 finishes at the 2012 WAC Championships. In the 1,650 free, Bassen captured 12th place with a season-best time (17:21.38). She also recorded an 18th-place showing in the 500 free and a     21st-place finish in the 200 fly. Bassen had three season-best times at the Houston Invitational (Nov. 17-19) in the 500 free (5:02.42), 100 fly (57.49) and 200 fly (2:07.00). On senior day, Bassen won the 1,000 free against Idaho (Jan. 21). She was a frequent member of the Aggie relay teams. Bassen was an Academic All-WAC honoree for the third straight year.

2010-11 (Junior): In her third season with the Aggies, Bassen swam in the distance freestyle and butterfly events. She scored for the Crimson and White in the 1,650 free with a 14th-place finish (17:32.06) at the 2011 WAC Championships. Bassen also finished in the top 25 in the 500 free and 200 fly. She recorded season-best times at the league meet in the 200 free (1:54.05), 500 free (5:04.27), 1,650 free, 100 fly (57.13) and 200 fly (2:07.88). For the second consecutive season, Bassen earned Academic All-WAC team honors.

2009-10 (Sophomore): Bassen swam in the butterfly and freestyle events for the Aggies as a sophomore. At the 2010 WAC Championships, she scored for NM State with a 12th-place finish in the 1,650 free (17:28.85) and 15th-place finish in the 200 fly (2:09.91). In addition, she placed in the top 25 in the 500 free and recorded season-best times in the 100 fly (59.48) and 200 free (1:55.46) at the league meet. In a relay meet with Northern Colorado (Oct. 30), Bassen was a member of three relays. She was the anchor for the 800-free relay that collected third place along with the third leg of the 400-free relay and leadoff for the 300-butterfly that earned a pair of fifth-place showings. The following day in a double-dual meet against Northern Arizona/Northern Colorado (Oct. 31), she was the second leg of the 400-free relay. Bassen was also honored for her success in the classroom with a spot of the Academic All-WAC team.

2008-09 (Freshman): In her first season as an Aggie, Bassen competed in the butterfly and freestyle events. At the 2009 WAC Championships, she finished eighth in the 1,650 free (17:18.35). Bassen also posted top 20 finishes in the 500 free and 200 fly in her first league meet. She recorded lifetime-best marks in all three events in addition to the 100 fly (57.53). At Northern Arizona (Dec. 6), Bassen collected a pair of third-place finishes in the 400 free and 800 free. She earned runner-up honors in the 1,000 free at Loyola Marymount (Dec. 19). In the 200 free at Northern Colorado (Jan. 16), Bassen finished in third place. In NM State's second consecutive win over in-state rival New Mexico (Jan. 28), Bassen scored for the Aggies with a third-place showing in the 1,000 free. She was named to the Academic All-WAC Freshmen team.

High School: Bassen was a butterfly and distance freestyle specialist from Lake Tapps, Wash. She swam for the King Aquatic Club and head coach Ken Spencer. As a sophomore, Bassen was a state qualifier and guided Sumner High School to a third-place district finish. At the 2005 state meet, she competed in the 500 free, 200-free relay and 400-free relay, which qualified for the state finals. In the district finals in 2005, Bassen swam in the 100 fly and 500 free. Bassen and the Spartans recorded a fifth-place showing in the district in her freshman season. In 2004, she competed in the 400-free relay and 200-medley relay at the state meet and the 100 back and 500 free at the district meet. She was also a member of the record-setting 400-free relay.

Personal: Bassen was born in Auburn, Wash., and is the daughter of Daren and Deanne Bassen. She is majoring in biology.
