Biography

2010-11 (Senior): Illgen competed in the breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley events in her final season in the Crimson and White. She set season-best times in the 200 breast, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM at the UNLV Invitational (Dec. 11-13) to help the Aggies claim second place. Illgen finished third in the 400 IM (4:38.46), eighth in both the 200 breast (2:27.97) and 200 fly (2:13.05) along with 15th in the 200 IM (2:14.00). At the 2011 WAC Championships, she earned a pair of 22nd-place showings in 200 breast and 400 IM. In dual meet action, Illgen claimed silver in the 200 fly at Northern Colorado (Jan. 21) and bronze in the 200 breast at Northern Arizona (Dec. 4). In addition, she earned Academic All-WAC honors for the third consecutive season.

2009-10 (Junior): In her junior campaign, Illgen helped the Aggies to a program-best second-place finish at the 2010 WAC Championships. She posted season-best times in the 200 breast (2:27.78), 200 individual medley (2:09.72) and 400 IM (4:33.33) at the conference meet. Throughout the year, Illgen also provided depth in the 100 breast and 200 fly. At the season opener, the WAC Shoot-Out, (Oct. 10), Illgen finished third in the 400 IM. In the home opener against Northern Colorado (Oct. 30), she swam the third leg of the 800-free relay that finished in third place. Illgen was also the second leg for the fifth-place 400-free relay. At New Mexico/Wyoming (Nov. 14), she claimed sixth in the 200 breast. For the second consecutive season, Illgen was named to the Academic All-WAC team.

2008-09 (Sophomore): For the second consecutive season, Illgen earned a fifth-place finish in the 400 individual medley at the WAC Championships (4:28.20). Her performance was a lifetime-best mark by nearly four seconds. Illgen also set lifetime bests in the 200 IM and 200 breast at the WAC meet. In addition, she competed for the Aggies in the 1,650 free at the conference meet. In the inaugural WAC Shoot-Out (Oct. 10-11), Illgen finished fourth in the 400 IM, while she also swam in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. She helped the Aggies to their first-ever win at Northern Arizona (Dec. 6) with top honors in the 400 IM. Illgen also provided depth in the 100 breast and 200 breast against the Lumberjacks. At Northern Colorado (Jan. 16), she recorded a third-place finish in the 1,000 free then she followed that performance the next day at Colorado State (Jan. 17) with third place in the 200 breast. Illgen was also an Academic All-WAC honoree.

2007-08 (Freshman): In her first season at NM State, Illgen was a contributor for the Aggies as an individual medley specialist. She scored at the WAC Championships with a fifth-place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:32.19). In the season opener against Northern Colorado/Rice (Oct. 12), Illgen set a personal best in the 200 breast. At the Northern Arizona/Idaho meet (Nov. 10), she collected her first collegiate victory as she claimed top honors in the 400 IM. Illgen recorded a then season-best time in the 400 IM with a 10th-place showing at the UNLV Winter Invitational (Dec. 15-17), which was a 10-team meet. In addition, Illgen was honored for her work in the classroom as she was named to the Academic All-WAC Freshmen team.

High School: Illgen joined the Aggies after spending four years swimming at Brookfield Central High School for coach Bill Twitchell in Brookfield, Wis. She was a four-time state qualifier for the Lancers. In addition, Illgen competed in the individual medley events for the Elmbrook Swim Club and coach Fred Russell. As a junior, she was named to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team for her successes in the classroom.

Personal: Illgen was born in Milwaukee, Wis. She is the daughter of Warren and Mary Illgen and has two sisters, Angela and Rachel, who are also swimmers. Illgen is majoring in community health.
