Biography

 

Junior (2008-2009): Costa was named to the 2009 All-WAC Academic Team and selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the second-straight season. She finished the spring season with an 8-11 singles record. She competed mainly at the No. 4 position, but she won both of her matches at the three spot. Costa teamed up with Sophia Marks to predominantly play the No. 1 doubles position. The duo had a 9-11 record together and was 4-3 in WAC competition. Her overall spring doubles record was 10-11, as she won her only match with Paulina Zuniga. Costa and Marks became the first ranked doubles team in the history of program. They were ranked No. 52 in the first week of the spring season, Jan. 5. The pair went 1-2 while ranked and were 1-1 against nationally ranked team, beating Cal Poly's 31st-ranked team in the Cal State Fullerton Intercollegiates, Oct. 10.

Sophomore (2007-08): Costa was named Second Team All-WAC in doubles play with teammate Sophia Marks, as the duo became just the second NM State doubles team to earn all-WAC honors. She competed at the bottom of the Aggies lineup in the dual match season and finished with a 7-11 singles record. She was 0-1 at No. 4 singles, 5-5 at No. 5 and 2-5 at No. 6. Costa won both of her conference regular season singles and doubles matches in 2008. In doubles play she went 9-13 exclusively at the No. 1 position with Marks. Costa and teammate Bianca Discordia started out the fall tournament season by winning the Flight Two Doubles Championship at the Miner Fall Invite on Sept. 23. Combining the fall and spring seasons, Costa had a 13-17 singles record and a 14-19 doubles record. Costa was named to the 2008 Academic All-WAC team and an ITA Scholar Athlete.

Freshman (2006-07): Costa competed at the bottom of the singles board for the Aggies her freshman year, going 7-14 in the spring dual match season. She won five out of her last six singles matches to end the season, all at the No. 6 position. Her last victory came over Idaho's Carolyn Berry (6-3, 6-0) at the 2007 WAC Championships. Costa went 3-1 against conference opponents on the year. In doubles action, Costa was 9-9 with two different teammates in the spring. She was 4-1 with Paulina Zuniga and 5-8 with Anne Fagegaltier. On the year overall, she was 13-15 in doubles play after going 4-6 in the fall tournament season. She won the Houston Quad Tournament Flight C singles draw on Nov. 5 and was 7-3 in the fall to give her an overall singles record of 16-17.

Prior to NM State: Costa comes to the Aggies from Sao Paulo, Brazil where she was ranked as high as No. 370 in the junior singles rankings before achieving a Top 10 national singles ranking. In doubles action, she was ranked as high as second in the country and played in the ITF COSAT league while competing in grade one and grade two tournaments in South America in 2003 and 2004. She was ranked as high as 18th in 2003 and later reached the Top 10 in the country in 2004 while representing her state in the national competition. In 2005, Costa played main draw in Casablanca (Grade A) and once again played at the COSAT League, reaching an overall ranking of No. 2 in doubles action.

Personal: Costa was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and is the daughter of Savina Bobbio and Testonio da Costa Neto. She is majoring in journalism.
