Biography

Junior (2012-13): Nguyen played primarily at the No. 5 singles spot and finished the 2013 spring season with a 12-5 record. She had one win at the third position as well. Key wins for the junior included a two-set win over her UTEP opponent for a team’s 4-3 win over the I-10 rival. She came back just 10 days later to top her Lobo counterpart (6-4, 6-1). She went on a five-match winning streak during late February and the first half of March. In those five consecutive victories, only one match went to three games. In doubles, Nguyen played the majority of the season with senior Ginet Pinero, resulting in a 5-9 record at the No. 1 spot. She also worked two matches with Mia Brandt and Lisa Roslanova for a combined 0-5 at court three.  Nguyen and Pinero teamed up for four straight wins in March, including three victories over WAC opponents.  In the fall of 2012, the junior made her way to the quarterfinals of the NM State hosted Aggie Invitational with matches against opponents from two ranked teams.

Sophomore (2011-12): Nguyen finished her sophomore campaign by winning 12 of her final 14 matches while primarily playing at the No. 5 or 6 spot.  She concluded the season with a 13-6 overall singles record, with 11 of those victories coming in straight sets.  Five times during the season Nguyen would hold her opponent to less than four games won in a match, including a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Erica Rasmussen from Western New Mexico on Apr. 18.

In doubles play, Nguyen would finish the season with a 10-8 record while partnering 16 times with Ginet Pinero (9-7) and twice with Denise Van Der Ben (1-1).  Nguyen won both her doubles matches while playing at the No. 2 spot, once with Pinero and another with Van Der Ben.  Also, three times during the season Nguyen and her partner would defeat their opponents by a score of 8-1.  She first accomplished it with Pinero against Weber State (Jan. 20), then with Van Der Ben versus UT Permian Basin (Feb. 26) and finally once more with Pinero against Western New Mexico (Apr. 18).

Freshman (2010-11): Nguyen made an impressive debut as an Aggie in her first season. She and doubles partner Natalia Salum lit up the scoreboard with 14 dual match wins at the No. 3 position to lead the team. Overall, Nguyen posted a 16-7 doubles record on the year. In singles play, Nguyen played primarily at the No. 6 slot, posting a 7-5 record there. One of the wins was a crucial victory over her opponent from Idaho in the WAC Tournament to help advance the Aggies to the semis.  She ended the year by winning three of her last four singles matches to complete the season. Nguyen was also recognized as a member of the WAC All-Academic Freshman Team.

Prior to NM State: Nguyen had a French national ranking of 0/6 before coming to NM State, but had been as low as -2/6, which is comparable to the rankings former Aggie greats Laura Boguet and Stephanie Eusebe had in France.  Nguyen played for TC Drizia Mirement in Geneva, France, where she was ranked as N330 according to Swiss ranks.  While playing for TC St. Julien en Genevois, France, Nguyen was ranked as 0.

Personal: Nguyen was born in Lyon, France, and is the daughter of To Thi Bich Thuy and Doc Ngoc Nguyen. She is majoring in international business.
