Biography
Junior (2008-2009): Marks was named to the 2009 all-WAC second team, becoming just the sixth women’s player to receive multiple all-conference honors in a career. She posted a 12-9 record at the top singles position for the Aggies. Marks started the season by winning six of her first eight matches and her five-match winning streak from Feb. 7-28 tied for the longest on the team. Marks had a 3-4 league record and 10 of her 12 wins came in straight sets. She was named the WAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for April 6-12. Combining the fall and spring seasons, Marks’15 singles victories were the most on the team. In doubles play, she and Aleksa Costa predominantly played at the No. 1 position. The duo went 9-11 together and was 4-3 against WAC competition. Costa and Marks became the first ranked doubles team in the history of the program, as they appeared at No. 52 in the first week of the spring season, Jan. 5. The pair went 1-2 while they were ranked and were 1-1 against nationally ranked teams in 2008-09. Marks and Costa defeated the 31st-ranked doubles team from Cal Poly in the Cal State Fullerton Intercollegiates, Oct. 10.
Sophomore (2007-08): Marks was named to the 2008 All-WAC second team in singles, as she played at the top singles position for the Aggies all year. Her and teammate Aleksa Costa were also named to the All-WAC Second Team in doubles play, becoming just the second NM State doubles team ever to earn all-WAC honors. She was one of four Aggies on the team to win over 10 singles matches, as she posted an 11-9 mark all at the top position in the dual match season. Marks won her only conference match of the season, a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Idaho’s Silvia Irimescu, on Feb. 10. From Feb. 9 through March 8, Marks won six straight singles matches and all but one of them came in straight sets. In doubles play, her and Costa went 9-13 together in the spring and all of their matches were played at the top position. Marks only played in one tournament in the fall season. There she went 1-0 in singles play and 0-2 in doubles with Costa.
Prior to NM State: Marks is from Grantham in the United Kingdom and attended the University of Lincoln. She had a high junior ITF ranking of 400 and competed in grade one in the ITF. She was an Aerial Grand Prix winner for the under 16 and 18 age groups and was the winner of the ITF Grade 4 Nottingham Girls in doubles. In her junior playing days, she proved to be a top player as she reached the quarterfinals of the UK Under 18 Nationals three times and was runner-up in the under 15 and under 16 Clay Court Championships. She was ranked in the Top 10 under 18 level in GB in 2004 and won the Fred Perry National Tournament at the under 16 level and twice won the under 18 level. Although she did not compete at the University of Lincoln, she has been successful in the ETA, ITF and British Tour events and has completed a number of WTA events. She was a top Division I prospect.
Personal: Marks is the daughter of Rosanna and Gregory Marks. Her sister, Natasha, plays tennis at the University of Arizona. She is majoring in kinesiology at NM State.
