Hernandez begins his first season as the volunteer coach on the Aggie volleyball squad.  He is also currently the director of the Sun City Extreme Volleyball Club from El Paso, Texas, where he has been the director as well as head coach since 2011.

Hernandez has his certification from USA Volleyball in the Coaching Accreditation Program Levels I and II and also attended the Sports Performance Coaching School at the Great Lakes Volleyball Center in Illinois.

Hernandez has always made an effort to help players of all ages improve their volleyball skills.  Not only does he volunteer at NM State, he also coaches a local fifth and sixth-grade elementary team.   Hernandez also volunteered as a coach at the YMCA in El Paso from 2010-12 and at a high school in Germany while stationed in the country as a member of the U.S. Army in the 1990s.  He also coached a community women’s team while in Germany.

Hernandez is a native of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, where he was a standout high school setter at Emilio R. Delgado in Corozal, Puerto Rico.  He received his degree in accounting from the University of Puerto Rico in 1995.  Hernandez is a U.S. Army veteran with deployments to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq, and has a 13-year-old daughter named Patricia.
