Bobby Willcox enters his third season with the Aggies and his second season as a fulltime coach. Willcox will make the jump from defense to offense and oversee the Aggies’ tight end corps.
In 2007, Willcox guided the Aggies’ inside linebackers. He helped Dante Floyd lead the team in tackles with 124, as he earned second team all-WAC honors. On the season, Willcox’ inside linebackers tallied 266 tackles.
As a graduate assistant on the defensive side of the ball in 2006, helping coach Carlton Buckels with the Aggie defensive backs. Willcox helped defensive back Courtney Bryan ranked fifth in the nation in pass defending, a combination of interceptions and pass break-ups. As a group the 2006 version of the Aggie secondary grabbed 11 interceptions, 31 pass break-ups and had three of the Aggies’ top-5 leading tacklers. The Aggies improved with four more interceptions then in 2005.
As video coordinator in 2005, Willcox was responsible for filming practice, editing tape and preparing NMSU’s and opponent’s film.
Before coming to New Mexico State, Willcox played football at Western New Mexico from 2002-04 as a wide receiver.
Willcox’s older brother Todd and younger sister Kami both graduated from NMSU. Todd played golf for the Aggies from 1998-99.
Willcox married the former Lisa Sevieri in July 23, 2005. Lisa is also a graduate of New Mexico State University. The couple resides in Las Cruces.
