After spending the past four seasons at Washington State, David Bellamy returned to Las Cruces to join Jake Angier's staff on Friday, June 30, 2023. Bellamy will serve as the Aggies' hitting coach while also overseeing the catchers in his return to Presley Askew Field.Â

Bellamy is no stranger to The 'Skew, previously spending time in Las Cruces as both a player and a coach. The former NM State outfielder began his career on Brian Green's staff, working throughout the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Bellamy helped the 2023 Cougars post a 29-23 record, their fourth-straight winning season and the most wins since 2015, including series wins at No. 15 Oregon State, over No. 12 UCLA, Arizona, at California, WCC champion Santa Clara and claimed the season series over Gonzaga, 2-1. Following the series win at No. 15 OSU to open conference play, WSU appeared at No. 20 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top-25, the Cougars first national ranking since 2010. WSU put up impressive numbers offensively in all three phases, hitting the tenth-most home runs in program history (54), recording the most stolen bases since 2015 (70), was hit by the pitch the third-most in program history (92), fielded at a .974 clip for the fourth-best fielding percentage in program history and the pitching staff set the strikeout record for the second straight season (518).Â

In 2022, WSU posted their third straight winning season and closed the year with series wins in four of the final five weekends, clinching series at No. 10 Oregon, USC, Utah Valley and wrapped up the season with the first sweep over Arizona State in program history. The Cougars posted a pair of road series wins over Top-10 teams for the first time in program history after taking two of three at ninth-ranked Arizona and No. 10 Oregon, notching road series wins in Tucson and Eugene for the first time since 2012. Following the season, three players earned All-Pac-12 Conference honors highlighted by designated hitter Jacob McKeon who earned first-team honors and was later named to the ABCA All-West Region Second Team.Â

In his second season working with the Cougar offense, Bellamy helped WSU to its first winning season since 2015 and the most Pac-12 Conference wins since 2014 after posting conference series wins at Utah, at California, against No. 8 Oregon and Washington. The Cougars finished the 2021 season leading the Pac-12 and fifth in the country in doubles-per-game (2.4), second in the conference in hitting (.302), third in extra-base hits (101) and third in scoring (7.2 runs/g) while pacing the league with 74 doubles in conference games. First baseman Kyle Manzardo was named to the All-America First Team by Collegiate baseball, earning All-America honors for the second straight season after hitting .365 with 19 doubles, 11 home runs and 60 RBI, the first Cougar with 60 RBI since 2008.Â

After spending two summers as the hitting coach for the St. Cloud Rox, Bellamy was named the third field manager in program history for the summer of 2021. As manager of the Rox during the summer of 2021, Bellamy guided his St. Cloud club to a franchise-record 53 wins, the third-best winning percentage in Northwoods League history, first and second half Great Plains West Division crowns, managed and won the Northwoods League All-Star Game, led St. Cloud to the Northwoods League Championship series and was named the Northwoods League Field Manager of the Year.Â

Bellamy began his coaching career in Las Cruces as a Graduate Assistant under Green. With Bellamy on staff, NM State set a school-record in batting average (.365) while leading the country in batting average, runs, runs per game, hits, triples, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and hit by pitch. Bellamy worked closely with Joey Ortiz (4th Round, 2019 MLB Draft) and Nick Gonzales (1st Round, 2020 MLB Draft), both of whom have made their MLB debuts in 2023.Â

PLAYING EXPERIENCEÂ
Formerly an outfielder for the Aggies, Bellamy was a two-year letterwinner at NM State (2017-18), sharing the diamond with a trio of future big leaguers. Bellamy hit .306 as a senior and helped lead NM State to the NCAA Lubbock Regional. A native of Eugene, Ore., Bellamy was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District First-Team and the Academic All-WAC First-Team.

Before playing for the Aggies, Bellamy spent time with Saint Martin's University and Lane Community College in his hometown of Eugene. At Lane Community College, Bellamy earned All-NWAC First-Team honors.
