John David Caffey begins his first season with the Aggies as the offensive graduate assistant and will help offensive lines coach Mason Miller.

Caffey comes to NMSU after serving as defensive coordinator of the football team and boys and girls head track and field coach at Westbury Christian School in Houston, Texas since 2003. His defense was ranked third statistically in the Houston area and helped lead WCS to the playoffs for the first time in school history. Four of his players earned All-State honors. Caffey, who coached in the Lone Star Bowl All-Star Game, also served as strength and conditioning coach for the football team.

As a track coach, Caffey helped develop 12 state meet qualifiers and one of his athletes won the state championship in the 200 meters.

Caffey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sul Ross State University (Alpine,

Texas) in 2003, where he lettered four years for the football team. The SRSU Man of the Year as a senior in 2002-03, he was named American Southwest Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year that year as well.

A three-time Academic All-Conference honoree, Caffey also earned the Educational Excellence and Sul Ross Permanent Captain Awards. Caffey was the vice president of the Alpha Chi Honors Society, a member of the Phi Alpha Theta history honor society and has been included in Who¹s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

The native of Anson, Texas was the valedictorian of his graduating class at Anson High School, president of both his junior and senior classes, and earned nine varsity letters in football, basketball and track.
