Salum begins her second season as the assistant coach of the women’s tennis team under Ivan Fernandez. Prior to becoming an assistant coach, she spent time as a graduate assistant and also played four years of tennis for the Aggies as a student-athlete.
Salum was part of a coaching staff that saw the 2013-14 NM State team make it to the WAC championship match during the WAC Tournament held in Las Cruces. She was integral part of Susana Alcaraz and Ashvarya Shrivastava being honored as All-WAC at the end of the season.
Salum concluded her playing career as an Aggie with over 100 combined singles and doubles wins, including 20 singles wins and 14 doubles wins during her senior year as co-captain of the team.
She garnered a WAC Player of the Week honor in 2011, was named to the All-WAC All-Academic team in 2010 and was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete in 2009.
Before coming to NM State, Salum was the No. 1-ranked junior in all of Mexico in both 2007 and 2008. She rose to her top national ranking after her singles and doubles titles at the Mexican National Championships from 2005-07.
Salum is from Durango, Mexico, and was born in El Paso, Texas. She earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology along with minors in business and marketing from NM State in 2012. She is currently working towards her MBA at the university.
