WACO, Texas – The 10th-ranked New Mexico State equestrian team captured three points to win equitation over fences, but the squad ultimately dropped a 7-6 decision to No. 9 Fresno State on Friday in the first round of the Willis Invitational.
"I'm proud of how we fought today," said head coach
Robin Morris-Walters. "The team worked hard and is excited to compete again tomorrow. We'll take what we learned from today and use it to get better moving forward."
Erica Roskinski scored a 79,
Karianna Knezevich racked up an 83 and
Madison Brayman had a 75 to each earn a point in equitation over fences. In addition to her point, Knezevich was named the Most Outstanding Player in equitation over fences.
The Aggies also collected three points in the western events.
Katlynn Crine scored a 72 in horsemanship to earn a point for the team. In reining,
Kimberly Ferrante amassed a score of 64, while
Jaimie Story scored a 64.5 to each earn a point.
NM State will compete again tomorrow in the second day of the Willis Invitational as they take on Baylor and South Dakota State. The day's events will begin at 9 a.m. MT.
