Blanche Alverson enters her first season as an assistant coach at New Mexico State after serving as a graduate assistant the past two seasons under Candi Whitaker at Texas Tech University.

During her time with the Lady Raiders, Alverson helped coach Ivonne CookTaylor to an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and Japreece Dean to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Tech also won its first Big 12 Tournament game since 2012 during Alverson’s time in Lubbock.

She also played a hand in Texas Tech landing a pair of top-75 nationally-ranked players in their position group according to ESPNU HoopGurlz for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Prior to her time in Lubbock, Texas, Alverson played a year overseas in Spain for CD Zamarat during the 2013-14 season.

Alverson was a standout player for head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy at Auburn. The Andalusia, Ala., product finished her Tiger career with 1,244 points (18th all-time at Auburn), 602 rebounds (19th all-time) and 185 assists (30th all-time). She also became only the fourth player ever in Auburn women’s basketball history to record, 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 100 assists, 100 steals and 50 blocks in her career.

The 6-3 guard/forward wrapped up her senior campaign third on the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game and led the Tigers with 6.1 boards per game. She was also deadly from downtown, knocking down 67 triples for a .366 average – good for the team lead.

Alverson was also a champion in the classroom, becoming the first Auburn women’s basketball player to be named SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012 as a junior and won it again in 2013. She earned Capital One Academic First-Team All-District IV honors as a senior on top of earning SEC Academic Honor Roll distinctions all four years. The Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association also named her to the WBCA Good Works Team her senior year.

Alverson, a fourth generation Auburn student, graduated with a degree in biomedical sciences and received her master’s degree from Texas Tech in sports management. She was the first Auburn student-athlete to be named Miss Homecoming in the fall of 2012.

Alverson is also a fourth generation student at Auburn. Both her parents, Bill and Cindy Alverson, graduated from Auburn as well as her grandfather, Rube Alverson, who played baseball for the Tigers. Her father Bill also has a television show on TLC, Coach Charming.
