LAS CRUCES,, N.M. – The 2015-16 New Mexico State Aggies went on public display for the first time on Saturday night as the Aggies hosted their annual Crimson and White Scrimmage at the Pan American Center.
Â
The Aggies played one half of game action before ending the evening with a slam dunk competition.
Â
The White team led for the first 16:30 before the score was reset to 80-80 for the final 3:30.
Â
That's when the Crimson team took advantage of having both returning starters
Pascal Siakam and
Ian Baker (put together for the final run). With the duo, Crimson claimed "winning time" 9-4.
Â
"I was pleased with the way the guys played tonight," said NM State head coach
Marvin Menzies. "We had a chance to dust out the cobwebs in our game."
Â
Siakam, a sophomore who earned the Western Athletic Conference's Media Preseason Player of the Year, led all scorers with 14 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds playing with both White and Crimson.
Â
Sophomore
Braxton Huggins added 13 points and three assists for the White.
Â
Baker, a junior named to the Preseason All-WAC first team, recorded 12 points and five assists playing for the Crimson.
Â
Menzies was also pleased with the more than 650 that turned out for the scrimmage.
Â
"I'm very happy with the turnout," said Menzies. "We have great support from our community and it made for a great atmosphere."
Â
The Aggies will play Western New Mexico in an exhibition game at the Pan American Center on Monday, Nov. 2. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m.
