Aggies enjoy Crimson & White Scrimmage

LAS CRUCES,, N.M. – The 2015-16 New Mexico State Aggies went on public display for the first time on Saturday night as the Aggies hosted their annual Crimson and White Scrimmage at the Pan American Center.

The Aggies played one half of game action before ending the evening with a slam dunk competition.

The White team led for the first 16:30 before the score was reset to 80-80 for the final 3:30.

That's when the Crimson team took advantage of having both returning starters Pascal Siakam and Ian Baker (put together for the final run). With the duo, Crimson claimed "winning time" 9-4.

"I was pleased with the way the guys played tonight," said NM State head coach Marvin Menzies. "We had a chance to dust out the cobwebs in our game."

Siakam, a sophomore who earned the Western Athletic Conference's Media Preseason Player of the Year, led all scorers with 14 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds playing with both White and Crimson.

Sophomore Braxton Huggins added 13 points and three assists for the White.

Baker, a junior named to the Preseason All-WAC first team, recorded 12 points and five assists playing for the Crimson.

Menzies was also pleased with the more than 650 that turned out for the scrimmage.

"I'm very happy with the turnout," said Menzies. "We have great support from our community and it made for a great atmosphere."

The Aggies will play Western New Mexico in an exhibition game at the Pan American Center on Monday, Nov. 2. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m.
