NM State Sweeps Mount St. Mary’s

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Victoria Castro hit two home runs in game two as the NM State softball team swept a double header against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday night at the NM State Softball Complex. The Aggies won the first game 9-4 and captured a 10-0 victory in the second game.
 
Game One
 
The Aggies (13-6) scored nine runs and had nine RBIs in 10 hits in the 9-4 victory. Rachel Rodriguez had two hits, three runs and four stolen bases. Makayla McAdams pitched 4.1 innings and amassed four strikeouts in 21 batters faced.
 
Mount St. Mary's (0-7) scored four runs and had four RBIs in 11 hits. Erin Sweeny pitched 4.1 innings and had zero strikeouts in 22 batters faced.
 
The Aggies scored in the bottom of the first inning. Rodriguez hit a single to right field and then stole second. Kelsey Horton then hit a double to score Rodriguez and give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Mount took the lead in the third inning. Jessica Greenewald hit a single to up the middle and then scored as Rachel Heinze hit a triple to right field. Lindsay Heinze singled to left field to score R. Heinze as the Mount took a 2-1 lead.
 
NM State evened the score in the bottom of the third inning. Horton was walked and advanced to second as Corrin Green grounded out to third base, then Fahren Glacken doubled to straightaway center to score Horton.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Rodriguez reached first on an error by the second baseman and then stole second. Adams hit a sacrifice fly to right field to move Rodriguez to third base. Horten hit another double to score Rodriguez. C. Green was hit by a pitch and Misty Hoohuli entered as a pinch runner for her.
 
Hoohuli and Horton advanced to second and third, respectively. Glackin reached first base on a fielder's choice and Horton scored on an error by the third baseman.  Amy Bergeson pinch ran for Glackin and stole second before B. Nakamura was walked to load the bases. Nue Sivia was walked to score Hoohuli and then Victoria Castro hit a sacrifice fly to score Bergeson as the Aggies took a 6-2 advantage after five innings.
 
NM State added three more runs in the seventh inning. Rodriguez hit a single to left field and stole second. Adams singled to left field to score Rodriguez. Jovanni Felix entered as a pinch runner for Adams and advanced to second as Horton hit a single to right field. Felix then scored as Alexis Maynez hit a single to left field. Horton scored as Sivia reached on a fielder's choice to give the Aggies a 9-2 lead.
 
Mount St. Mary's cut into the home team's lead in the top of the seventh. Greenewald hit a single to left field and Devon Hutchins entered as a pinch runner. Megan Baker singled up the middle and Hutchins stole third base before L. Heinze hit a double to left center to score Baker and Hutchins.
 
Game Two
 
NM State score 10 runs and racked up 10 RBIs on eight hits in the 10-0 win. Castro scored two runs, amassed three hits and racked up five RBIs. Kayla Green pitched a complete 5.0 innings and had three strikeouts in 19 batters faced.
 
Mount St. Mary's had five hits and left four runners on base. Marian Ruf pitched 4.0 innings and had two strikeouts in 27 batters faced.
 
After a scoreless first inning, NM State took an 8-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning. Green walked and Bergeson entered as a pinch runner before Victoria Castro hit a home run over the right field wall.  The Aggies loaded the bases as Kennedy Johnson was hit by pitch, B. Nakamura singled to right field and Haley Nakamura was walked.
 
Rodriguez hit a single to left field to score Johnson and Adams hit a single up the middle to score H. Nakamura and B. Nakamura. Rodriguez scored as Glackin reached first base on an error by the shortstop. Castro hit a double down the right field line to score Horton and Adams to give the Aggies the lead after two innings.
 
NM State added two more runs in the third and fourth innings. B. Nakamura was walked and reached third as Rodriguez singled to left field. B. Nakamura scored in the third inning as Glackin grounded out to first base. Castro hit her second home run of the night to give the home team a 10-0 advantage.
 
The Aggies take the field again on Friday as they face Southern Utah at 10:00 a.m. (MT) in the Alexis Park Resort Classic in Las Vegas.
