TROY, Ala. – New Mexico State volleyball (5-2) finished the weekend 4-0 after a sweep of Southern (1-6) on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies took the match with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-11 decision.
                                                                                                                                                         
The Aggies were paced by freshman Kyra Banko. A native of Stevenson Ranch, Calif., Banko logged a career high nine kills and nine digs. Junior Kassandra Tohm followed closely with eight kills, an impressive .636 hitting percentage and four blocks. Western Athletic Preseason Player of the Year Sasha-Lee Thomas also contributed seven kills.
 
The match began in a stalemate as neither team was able to gain a sizable advantage. The Aggies were finally able to break away with a 10-8 lead. NM State didn't look back from that point on and took the frame 25-18.
 
The second set was a continuation of the first as the Aggies jumped out to an 8-3 lead early. They would push the lead out to 16-5 and then 22-9. NM State closed out the set with a 25-12 decision.
 
The Aggie continued to roll in the third and final set as they opened with an 11-2 lead. That lead would run out to 15-5 and 17-7. NM State would claim their fourth-straight victory with a 25-11 decision in the final set.
 
The Aggies are back in action for their home opener as they host Sacramento State on Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. in the Borderland Invitational. Then later that day, they will then take on nationally-ranked Texas A&M at 7p.m.
