CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIF. Â New Mexico State fell to No. 7 LSU 9-0 in five innings to open the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.
Kayla Green started in the circle for the Aggies. She pitched a scoreless first inning but gave up two runs in the bottom of the second, giving LSU the 2-0 lead. The Tigers scored seven runs in the third, getting hits off both Green and
Samaria Diaz to give LSU the 9-0 advantage.
NM State got their offense going in the top of the fourth.
Fahren Glackin drew a leadoff walk for the Aggies.
Kelsey Horton ended LSU's no-hitter with a single up the middle to put runners on first and second.
Merina Ili walked to load the bases with no outs. NM State was unable to put runs on the board as
Victoria Castro flied out and
Caity Szczesny hit into a double play to end the Aggies at-bat.
After a scoreless fourth for LSU, NM State tried once more to drive runners home. A Rodriguez bunt put runners on the corners with two outs. The Aggies were unable to bring the runner home ending the inning and the game.
NM State moves to 4-5 with Green moving to 2-3 in the circle. LSU moves to 10-1 this season.
New Mexico State looks to rebound as the Aggies take on North Carolina State on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
