CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIF. – The New Mexico State softball team fell to San Diego State on Sunday to close the NM State's run at the Marry Nutter Classic. The Aggies fell 10-2 in five innings for their eighth straight loss.
NM State fell behind early as the team allowed four runs in the second inning and five runs in the fourth inning to give the Aztecs the 9-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kelsey Horton kept her hitting streak alive as she doubled to left center field. Merina Ili doubled to advance Horton to third as Kennedy Johnson came to the plate. Johnson walked to load the bases with one out in the inning. Fahren Glackin sent a single up the middle to score the Aggies first run. Shelby Shultes walked with the bases loaded to score another run for NM State.
The rally fell short as San Diego State tacked on another run in the fifth. Unable to score in their next at-bat, the Aggies fell 10-2 in five innings .
NM State falls to 4-9 this season losing its last eight games. Kayla Green moves to 2-5 this season. The sophomore pitched 3.2 innings and allowed five hits. Horton hit her sixth double of the season in the loss. She has a hit in each of the Aggies 13 games this season.
New Mexico State returns home for a midweek matchup against UTEP. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
