LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's golf team wrapped up play at the 54-hole Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on a cold Tuesday afternoon. Strong play saw the Aggies hold on at the end with the squad capturing the team and individual titles at the home tournament.
Mike McGilton led individual play among the entire field shooting a 74-67-75—216 (+3) t

o finish in first place and take home the title. This is the first individual title of McGilton's Aggie career and his second top-three finish this season. Two more NM State starters posting top-10 scores were
Tadhg Campbell and
Cameron Gambini as each fired a 219 (+6) and tied for seventh.
Hogan Molthan followed closely behind his teammates registering a 70-77-74—221 (+8) and the golfer tied for 13
th.
Davis Chung rounded out the NM State starters and tied for 39
th after shooting a 75-79-73—227 (+14).
For the Aggie individuals,
Cooper Donahue and
Tanvir Kahlon led the way as they tied for ninth with a tournament total of 220 (+7).
Thomas Tulk was one stroke behind at 221 (+8) and tied for 13
th.
Niall Powell finished in a tie for 16
th posting a 74-75-73—222 (+9).
Tristin Goodwin shot a 77-73-76—226 (+13) and tied for 36
th. Just three strokes behind that were the remaining NM State individuals
Garrison Smith,
Tyler Svendson and
Ryo Harada who finished with a total of 229 (+16) and tied for 46
th.
At the end of the annual Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, the host, NM State shot n 873 (+21) to win the tournament, followed by UTEP in second at 878 (+26) and Oral Roberts completed the top-three with a team score of 879 (+27).
The New Mexico State men's golf team now looks to ride this momentum into its final event of the fall at the Pepsi-Cola Classic, which is located on the Redhawk Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. from Oct. 20-21.
