LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State men's golf team finished up the first day of action at the Pepsi-Cola Classic at the Pepsi Cola Classic on Saturday at the Redhawk Golf Club. After 36 holes, NM State sat in fourth place out of eight with a team score of 583 (+7).
Individual play for the Aggies was led by
Mike McGilton who wrapped up the first day of play with a scorecard of 67-72—139 (-5) that put the golfer in second place. McGilton currently leads NM State and is second among the entire tournament field with 10 birdies.
Tadhg Campbell followed in a tie for 11
th after shooting a 72-74—146 (+2).
Another Aggie sitting in the top-25 at the end of day one was
Tanvir Kahlon who fired a 72-76—148 (+4) and is tied for 22
nd through two rounds.
Cameron Gambini shot a 79-73—152 (+8) to tie for 34
th and
Hogan Molthan rounded out the Aggie starting lineup in a tie for 38ths at 79-74—153 (+9).
As for the NM State individuals,
Tristin Goodwin led the way with an opening day card of 146 (+2) that put the golfer in a tie for 11
th.
Davis Chung was just one stroke behind at 147 (+3) and is tied for 19
th.
Niall Powell shot a 150 (+6) to tie for 28
th after 36 holes.
Garrison Smith enters the final round in a tie for 31
st firing a 151 (+7).
Ryo Harada shot a 155 (+11) on Saturday and sits in a tie for 44
th at the end of two rounds.
Thomas Tulk and
Tyler Svendson complete the Aggie individuals as the golfers each shot a 158 (+14) and are tied for 49
th.
Heading into the final round, the team leaderboard features Grand Canyon and host UTEP in a tie for first place with each team shooting a 573 (-3). UMKC rounded out the top-three shooting a 579 (+3).
The final 18 holes of action at the Pepsi-Cola Classic begins with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. MT on Sunday, Oct. 20. Live scoring for the event can be followed on
