@NMStateWGolf Adds a Pair to 2019-20 Roster

NM State women’s golf head coach Danny Bowen added a pair of student-athletes to the squad for 2019-20 on national signing day.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's golf team added a pair of strong high school student-athletes to the roster for the 2018-19 season. The new golfers hail from Texas and Mexico as they make their move to the City of Crosses to help the Aggies next season.

Taylor Mieras
Plano Senior High School | Allen, Texas

Competed on the varsity golf squad at Plano Senior HS… Won a playoff for the individual regionals qualifying spot at the District 6-6A tournament… Took home first place at the Battle at the Bridges in 2016… Finished second at the All-American Tour Championship as a sophomore… Placed third at the Rumble in the Pines in 2016.

Following the signing head coach Danny Bowen said, "Very excited for Taylor to become an Aggie! She's worked really hard in high school, and it has shown with her ability to compete not only at the Texas high school level, but also at National events as well. Taylor keeps her mistakes minimal around the golf course and is a consistent ball striker and putter. Transitioning to the college level will be easier because of those two. Taylor should come in right away and compete for a traveling spot."

Alison Gastelum
ESFER Salesianos | Chihuahua, Mexico

Competed in various junior tournaments… Finished in the top-6 at the 2018 Texas-Oklahoma Girls Open Championship shooting a 228… Took home a third place finish at the T-O in 2017… Shot a 151 to finish in second in the 15-18 division at the Ascarate Junior Golf Tournament in 2017.

After the roster addition, coach Bowen said, "Alison is super excited to join the Aggie Family next year, as am I! She's a proven winner across the junior level in Mexico and it will be great to bring her in to make practices and qualifying more competitive. Alison is a great driver of the golf ball, but also possesses the type of short game necessary for the collegiate level. She will have the opportunity to battle for playing time right away as a freshman."

The New Mexico State women's golf team gets ready to open its spring schedule at the Mission Hills Invitational in Rancho Mirage, Calif. from Jan. 27-28.
