Former Aggie Inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame

Meridith (Sanders) Barone enshrined by Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

NEW CASTLE, Ind. – Former New Mexico State women's basketball player Meridith (Sanders) Barone was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame as parts of its 18th women's induction class, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.

"We want to give a huge congratulations to Meridith, your Aggie family is beyond proud of you," said head coach Brooke Atkinson. "This honor really demonstrates the quality of the student-athletes and coaches that have come before us. We have a proud tradition as a university and as a basketball program and honors like this help cement that legacy."

Barone played for the Aggies from 1988-92 under head coaches Joe McKeown and Doug Hoselton. She made 116 appearances in the Crimson and White to go with 51 starts, including 30-of-31 games during her senior campaign. The forward averaged 11.3 points and 8.8 points as a senior and wrapped up her career fourth on the NM State blocks list with 67. She also represented the program well off the court, earning academic all-conference honors in 1988-89.

Barone hails from West Lafayette, Ind., where she starred at West Lafayette High School. As a senior at West Lafayette, Barone averaged 17.2 points and 11.2 rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the field.  She joins her father, Dave Sanders, a 2017 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, in the Hall making them the second father-daughter duo to be enshrined.
