LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team travels to El Paso, Texas, to take on Battle of I-10 rival UTEP. The Tuesday contest is set for 6 p.m. MT at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.

For the second-straight week,
Kayla Green received the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, as announced by the league on Monday. The junior went 1-1 with a 1.17 earned-run average and over 12.0 innings pitched last week. In a loss to top-ranked Oklahoma, Green pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out a Sooner batter. Against Boston University, she pitched five innings and allowed seven hits. Green also failed to allow a walk or an earned run in the victory.
RANK IT UP
NM State received votes in both the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) top-25 poll and the USA Softball/ESPN poll following New Mexico State's 2-1 opening weekend against then-ranked No. 17 Kentucky. The last time an Aggie squad received votes in a national poll was Feb. 28, 2012.
LAST TIME OUT
In the final game of the Troy Cox Classic, New Mexico State topped Boston University 2-1 to close out a 1-2 weekend for the Aggies.
Kelsey Horton opened the game with a solo home run, her second long ball of the season.
Rachel Rodriguez followed with a double and advanced to third on a fielding error by the Terriers.
Fahren Glackin brought the senior home on a single through the right side for the team's second run of the game. Green picked up the win, pitching 5.0 inning and allowing seven hits and no earned runs.
Samaria Diaz earned the save by pitching 2.0 innings and striking out a pair of BU batters.
KNOW YOUR FOE: UTEP
UTEP enters the contest with a 4-6 overall record. The Miners are currently riding a three-game winning streak after taking down New Mexico, UNLV and South Dakota at the Marucci Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
In the circle, Julia Wright posts a team-best 4.36 ERA but is 0-2 during her 2018 campaign. The junior tallied a team-high 18 strikeouts and 25.2 innings pitched in the Miners' 10 games played. Cortney Smith leads the team with a .385 batting average and a .769 slugging percentage. The junior infielder has started every game for UTEP, recording three homers and seven RBI.
COMING UP: BATTLES IN THE LONE STAR STATE
NM State returns to the Lone Star State for a tournament hosted by the Miners beginning on Friday, Feb. 23, The team takes on Portland State at 10:30 a.m. and Idaho State at 1 p.m.
