@NMStateSoftball Travels to Lone Star State for Weekend Tournament

NM State softball takes on Portland State and Idaho State in a three-day tournament at UTEP.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team travels to El Paso, Texas, to face Portland State and Idaho State at the UTEP Tournament beginning on Friday, Feb. 23. The three-day tournament begins for the Aggies when the team takes on the Vikings at 10:30 a.m. MT followed by the Bengals at 1 p.m.

WEEKLY WARRIOR
For the second-straight week, Kayla Green received the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, as announced by the league on Monday. The junior went 1-1 with a 1.17 earned-run average and over 12.0 innings pitched last week. In a loss to top-ranked Oklahoma, Green pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out a Sooner batter. Against Boston University, she pitched five innings and allowed seven hits. Green also failed to allow a walk or an earned run in the victory.

LAST TIME OUT
New Mexico State took down Battle of I-10 rival UTEP on Tuesday night. The Aggies posted six of their eight runs in the third inning, including a two-run home run by Nikki Butler. Green moved to 4-1 in the circle this season as she pitched 4.2 innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits and striking out three Miner batters.

KNOW YOUR FOE: PORTLAND STATE
Portland State enters the tournament with a 1-3 overall record. The Vikings defeated Sam Houston State 8-2 in their first contest of the season but lost three-straight following the victory.

In the circle, Alyssa Burk leads Portland State with a 3.50 ERA and a 1-1 record. The junior pitched 12.0 innings this season, striking out five batters while only walking seven. Offensively, Darian Lindsey posts a .364 batting average, starting in all four contests for the Vikings. The redshirt sophomore leads the team with a double, a triple and a homer so far this season.

KNOW YOUR FOE: IDAHO STATE
Idaho State travel to the Lone Star State looking for its first win of its 2018 campaign. The Bengals come into the tournament after competing in the Marucci Desert Classic in Las Vegas, where the team went 0-5.

Emma Bordenkecher leads the team with a pair of home runs, a pair of doubles and six RBI. The sophomore posts a .375 batting average and a .875 slugging percentage in her five starts. Mariah Mulcahy enters the weekend with a 7.37 ERA so far this season. In her four appearances, the junior pitched three complete games, allowing nine doubles, a triple and three homers.

COMING UP: LUBBOCK BOUND
Following the tournament, the Aggies remain on the road as the team travels to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech. NM State is set to battle the Red Raiders in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 27, beginning at 1 p.m. (MT).
