LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State women's basketball head coach
Brooke Atkinson announced the addition of National Junior College Athletic Association First-Team All-American Adenike "Nike" Aderinto.
"We are very excited to add Nike to our team and to our post group," said Atkinson. "Nike will add another dimension to our group and more depth at the post position. She has proven herself to be a winner and a champion and we are very excited to have her in crimson and white."
The Lagos, Nigeria, native played junior college ball at South Georgia Tech where she led the Lady Jets to their third consecutive Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association title, second consecutive NJCAA Region XVII tournament championship, second NJCAA Division J Championship and fourth appearance in the national tournament in the last five years following the 2017-18 campaign.
Aderinto averaged 13.8 points per game her sophomore year while pulling down 11.8 rebounds per game, earning her NJCAA First-Team All-American, Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American and NJCAA Division I All-Tournament team honors. She was also named the GCAA Player of the Year.
An elite rebounder, the 6-2 forward's 11.8 rebounds per game ranked seventh in NJCAA Division I for 2017-18. She pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds in an 80-56 home victory over Atlanta Metropolitan.
Aderinto also notched 21 double-doubles during the 2017-18 campaign including a monster 27-point, 16-rebound effort against Andrew College at home and nine-straight from Feb. 3 to March 20.
Aderinto joins the Aggies' rotation for the 2018-19 season, adding depth and versatility to NM State's frontcourt.
