LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State cross country teams gets set for the Lobo Invitational at the UNM North Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 1. The 5,000m race is set to begin at 9:50 a.m. MT.
The Aggies look to continue their momentum from a successful 2017 season. During the Western Athletic Conference Championships last season, the men's team posted its best finish since 2014 by taking home third. The women's team won the championship on a tiebreaker over Utah Valley, the program's first conference title since 2009.
Notable returners for the men's team include
Aaron Valenzuela, who placed fifth at the league meet, earning him All-WAC First Team honors.
Abel Ketema and
Jose Silva returned for the men's squad and both runners earned All-WAC Second Team recognition last during their junior campaigns.
On the women's side,
Julia Yescas received All-WAC First Team honors after placing fourth at the WAC Championships in 2017. She was also the WAC Freshman of the Year in 2016.
Jess Dominguez was the other athlete who received All-WAC honors who returns to the squad. She placed 10
th at the league meet, placing her on the second team.
The Aggies hit the ground running at 9:50 a.m. when the teams take to the 5,000m course at the UNM North Golf Course. Spectator parking is located directly South across the street from the North Golf Course.
