THE BATTLE FOR 1,000 KILLS
Outside hitter
Tatyana Battle reached her 1,000th kill when NM State took on Florida Gulf Coast in the squad's tournament opener at the Lobo Classic. She notched the milestone kill on a backrow attack with
Jordan Pleasants on the assist. She currently posts 1,029 kills for her career.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
NM State ended the 2017 season on a 13-match home winning streak. The Aggies lost their first two matches at home last year but the team quickly rebounded and strung together the winning streak. Not only did the team win 13-straight home matches, New Mexico State only dropped three sets during the streak.
LAST TIME OUT
The Aggies dominated New Mexico in the Lobo Classic tournament finale when the team claimed the 3-0 victory over UNM.
Savannah Davison led all players with 15 kills
Tatyana Battle followed the freshman, notching 11 kills of her own along with 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
The duo of Davison and Battle were named to the all-tournament team following the match. The Aggies posted a 2-1 record over the weekend. Davison tallied 43 kills to lead the team, averaging 3.91 per set. Battle recorded a double-double in each match, averaging 3.45 kills per set and 3.91 digs per set for the weekend.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Grambling State enters the match averaging 8.42 kills per set and 9.79 digs per set. The Tigers are searching for the first win of their 2018 campaign. The team has claimed just a single set this season and it came against Nicholls on Aug.25.
Kevreion Ward leads the team with 41 kills so far for her senior campaign. The opposite also posts seven blocks for a 0.37 blocks per set average on the year. L'Muriell Thrower has tallied 69 assists so far this season with a 3.63 assists per set average. The GSU setter has also notched 26 digs, the second most on the team behind Kabria Dame, who has recorded 42.
COMING UP: SPRINGHILL SUITES INVITATIONAL
Following the match against Grambling State, NM State hosts the annual Springhill Suites Invitational where the squad faces off against Montana and Arizona from Sept. 7-8. New Mexico State closes the weekend at UTEP on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
