IN THE NATION
Through games on Jan. 14, NM State is ranked 19th in the country rebounding margin (7.4) and its offensive rebounds per game (13.53) while its NET ranking of 95 is best amongst WAC teams.
Â
EYEING THE REDHAWKS
Seattle U boasts a 12-6 overall record so far and 0-3 in league play after a rough start to conference action on the road. However, the Redhawks get to return home and play in their own gym for the first time since Dec. 20 where they hold an impressive 10-1 mark. SU's lone loss at the Redhawks Center this season came at the hands of Southern Utah, 73-70.
Â
NM State is 13-3 all-time against Seattle U with all three losses coming on the road – including last season's 73-63 loss in overtime at KeyArena. As the road team, the Aggies are 4-3 all-time against SU.
Â
Like the Aggies, Seattle U has had some big wins and some near losses to big teams. The Redhawks first took down in-state rival Washington State at home before nearly upsetting another Pac-12 team in Washington – falling 70-62 in the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
Â
Unlike the Aggies, SU relies predominantly on its starters – who account for 83-percent of the team's scoring as well as 76-percent of its rebounding. All five starters are also averaging in double-figures for the Redhawks and is led by Morgan Means – who is averaging 15.7 points and 4.5 rebounds while his 62 assists and 38 3-pointers are good for second-most on the squad.
Â
Carter Myles is second on the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game while boasting a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game and 42 blocks in addition to his team-high .552 shooting clip. Matej Kavas, who recently got injured, is third on the team, averaging 14.1 points and 6.3 boards while his 39 shots from deep are good for best on the team. Delante Jones checks in with 12.8 points per game thanks to his 30 shots from downtown while SU's version of
Terrell Brown rounds out the scoring list at 11.6 points per game and 6.8 boards per game while leading the team with 92 dimes. From there, the scoring drops quite significantly with Aaron Nettles sitting at 4.0 points per game.
Â
Since the start of conference play, Jones paces the team with 16.3 points per game while Brown checks in with 15.3 points per game and 6.0 rebounds with Carter tallying 11.3 points per game and 7.3 boards.

COACHES VS. CANCER
For their game on Saturday, Jan. 26, at UT Rio Grande Valley, the Aggie men's basketball coaching staff will join other staffs around the country in the fight against cancer. During the week, coaching staffs will be wearing a special pair of gold laces in memory of Lacey Holsworth, an 8-year-old basketball fan who lost her battle with cancer. In addition, head coach will also be wearing a specially designed Coaches vs. Cancer tie, courtesy of Vineyard Vines.
Â
Fans can purchase their own tie at
vineyardvines.com by searching "coaches" while 30-percent of the tie sales will benefit the American Cancer Society in its mission to free the world from cancer. Fans can also purchase the gold laces by going to
www.shoecarnival.com/lacey with 85-percent of the proceeds from the sales going to the American Cancer Society and 15-percent of the sales going to
Princess Lacey's Legacy. Funds received by the American Cancer Society will be restricted to pediatric cancer.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Aggies once again had a slow start to the game and quickly saw itself trail CSU Bakersfield at home, but was able to get some momentum heading into the locker room thanks to a 3-pointer from
Terrell Brown.
Â
It was definitely a tale of two halves as NM State came out of the break a completely different team, executing at a much better rate than the first-half. As a team, NM State outscored the Runners 51-33 in the second frame and shot a blistering 60.9-percent (14-of-23) from the floor and 50-percent (6-of-12) from beyond the arc.
Â
Brown, who led the team with 19 points, scored 16 of its 19 points in the second stanza, going 3-of-3 from the floor, 2-of-2 from deep and 8-of-10 from the line.
Shunn Buchanan, who started in place of a sick
AJ Harris, tallied eight of his 12 points in the second-half and dished out a season-high eight assists – including a pair of 3-pointers late in the game that sparked the Aggie offense.
Â
UP NEXT
After its time in the Pacific Northwest, New Mexico State then heads to the beehive state for a 7 p.m. (MT) battle against the Wolverines of Utah Valley on Saturday, Jan. 19, in a WAC Digital Network broadcast game.
Â
LOOKING AHEAD
