Aggies set to battle for first place in Kansas City before visiting Chicago State.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's basketball team hits the road to take on Kansas City in a battle for first place in the Western Athletic Conference standings on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m. (MT) before heading to the Windy City to take on Chicago State on Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m.

A Look at the Roos
Kansas City sits at 11-8 overall and a 5-1 conference record as they sit in a tie with NM State for first place in the WAC standings. UMKC also currently holds a three-game winning streak. The last time the two teams met, the Aggies won a 76-67 decision at the Pan American Center behind 24 points from Gia Pack.
 
In head coach Jaycie Hoy's second season, the Roos boast the second-most potent scoring attack in the WAC at 74.8 points per game. They also rank second in the conference in field goal percentage (42.5 percent) and three-point field goal percentage (33.0 percent).
 
Ericka Mattingly paces the UMKC attack with 18.9 points per game, tops in the WAC. Mattingly also leads the league in assists per game with 6.2 per game. Three other Roos also average double-figure scoring in Leilah Vigil (10.8), Emily Ivory (10.3) and Kristen Moore (10.2).
 
Scouting Chicago State
Entering Saturday's showdown, Chicago State is on a three game losing streak and currently holds a record of 1-18 and a 1-5 mark in WAC play. NM State took home an 84-60 decision in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 WAC tournament.
 
Tyeshia Bowers is CSU's top scorer as she averages 13.1 points per game and is the only Cougar to average double-figure points. Ines Mata Boix is the top rebounder for Chicago State with 11.9 per game which is also tops in the conference.
 
The Cougars' 55.6 points per game are last in the league as a scoring offense. They are also last in the league in scoring defense, giving up 86.9 points per game.
 
Last Time Out
New Mexico State took on UT Rio Grande Valley in a WAC game on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Pan American Center, a 71-63 victory for NM State's 18th-consecutive conference home win. Gia Pack led the way with 22 points while Dominique Mills poured in a career-high 19. Brooke Salas also recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
