LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Complete and utter domination.
Â
The
NM State women's golf team put together one of the best rounds in program history Tuesday at the Aggie Invitational. The Aggies shot a seven-under-par 281, tying the third-lowest round in team history, and sit alone in first with a 19-stroke lead (577, +1) ahead of second-place Northern Arizona (596, +20).
Â
The seven-under-par 281 is also the lowest round ever by NM State at the Aggie Invitational.
Â
"We've had three tournaments before this, and we've had some rounds where we've been close to finishing off and really playing well," head coach
Danny Bowen. "We were just missing that fourth score, and I've been telling myself, 'It's going to be really fun when we do have four or five really solid scores.
Â
"Today was one of those days. To see three of our top five competitors in the top five for the tournament is really good."
Â
Sophomore
Amelia McKee fired the best round of her collegiate career Tuesday. The Baylor transfer came in at five-under-par 67 to top her previous best of 68, which she set earlier this season at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic.
Â
McKee's effort ties Viviana Macias' round of 67 in 2015 for the lowest round by an Aggie in tournament history. She enters tomorrow's final round in second place at two-under-par 142 overall, sitting one stroke back from the leader.
Â
"Amelia's added so much more than just a score to this team," Bowen said. "She's come in from day one and been a part of this family. The team really took her in well, and that's what I look for first."
Â
Senior
Dominique Galloway and freshman
Alison Gastelum are both in the mix for the individual title. Galloway is tied for third at one-under-par 143 overall after an even-par 72 in the second round, while Gastelum sits tied for third at one-under-par 143 following a two-under-par 70 day.
Â
Senior
Pun Chanachai fired an even-par 72 in the second round to move up the leaderboard. She is tied for 13
th at five-over-par 149.
Â
Junior
Kehler Koss rounded out the Aggie fivesome with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. She is tied for 15
th at six-over-par 150.
NM State's individual competitors were on their game, as well. Redshirt senior
Angela Xu enters tomorrow's final round tied for 15
th at six-over-par 150. Freshman Alexandra Quihuis is also in the top 25, coming in at seven-over-par 151.
Â
Freshman

th at 10-over-par 154.
Â
The Aggies will look to finish the job and claim the tournament title when the third and final round tees off at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
