Aggies Run Wild, Cruise Past UIW

NM State, led by senior running back Jason Huntley's career-best 174 rushing yards, gained nearly 300 yards of offense on the ground in a convincing 41-28 win against UIW Saturday.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Aggies exploded for over 600 total yards of offense, including a season-best 295 yards of rushing, storming to 41-28 win against UIW Saturday afternoon at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

The two-headed monster of senior halfbacks Jason Huntley and Christian Gibson combined for over 200 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Huntley rushed for a career-high 174 yards and a score, while Gibson gained 115 yards of rushing and punched in his first touchdown of the season.

Huntley and Gibson are the first pair of NM State running backs to both total 100 or more rushing yards in a contest since Larry Rose III (170) and Conner Cramer (110) did so at South Alabama in 2016.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Josh Adkins played yet another mistake-free game, completing 28-of-38 pass attempts for 316 yards and two touchdowns. He linked up with graduate transfer wideout Tony Nicholson twice in the end zone for first-quarter scores.

Redshirt senior wide receiver OJ Clark, meanwhile, made an impact when he had the football in his hands. The native of Wichita Falls, Texas, who has the third-most receptions in program history, hauled in five passes for 47 yards and returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown.

NM State's defense tallied a season-best 6.0 sacks and forced two turnovers, both courtesy of senior defensive back Jared Phipps. The native of Arlington, Texas, intercepted two passes in the ballgame.
