@NMStateVBall Seeks To Continue Win Streak on the Road

Aggies look to remain undefeated in WAC play with a conference road trip.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State volleyball team is headed to Bakersfield, Calif., for a match against CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m. and Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. The Aggies look to remain undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play and extend their 13-match winning streak.

With You in the Middle
As the Aggies rack up the wins, it's in no small part to the middle blocker duo of Megan Hart and Julianna Salanoa. Hart, a redshirt senior, ranks 16th nationally in hitting percentage at .409. Salanoa has been unstoppable defensively as she ranks 15th nationally in total blocks (119) and ninth nationally in blocks per set (1.42).
 
D Up
Heading into this weekend's matches, the Aggies rank top-10 in number of defensive statistical categories. NM State checks in at seventh in total blocks (253.0), fourth in blocks per set (3.01) and leads the nation in opponent hitting percentage (.103).
 
Scouting the Roadrunners
CSU Bakersfield enters Thursday's matchup with an 8-16 record with a 3-9 WAC mark. NM State won 3-1 (25-15, 15-16, 17-25, 25-21) in Las Cruces on Oct. 10 with Cat Kelly leading the way with 13 kills and Julianna Salanoa adding nine blocks.
 
The Roadrunners have struggled both offensively and defensively this season. Offensively, CSU Bakersfield ranks eighth in the WAC in hitting percentage (.174). They also rank eighth in the league in opponent hitting percentage (.220).

A Look at the Lopes
Grand Canyon Currently sits in second place in the WAC standings with a 10-2 conference record and a 20-4 record overall. In Las Cruces on Oct. 12, The Aggies dominated GCU in three sets (25-18, 25-13, 15-16) in a battle for first place in the standings. Megan Hart exploded for a career-high 19 kills while hitting .643.
 
The Lopes are solid offensively, ranking second in the WAC in hitting percentage (.242) and kills (12.82). Individually, Annabelle Kubinski has been a monster for the Lopes as she leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.411) which also ranks 13th nationally.
 
GCU is also a good defensive team as they rank second to the Aggies in opponent hitting percentage (.187) and third in blocks (3.01).

NM State returns to the Pan American Center to wrap up the regular season with a pair of WAC matches with Chicago State making the trip on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 12 p.m. and Kansas City paying a visit on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m.
