LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Gia Pack moved into ninth on the NM State all-time scoring list but the Aggies dropped a 70-47 contest to Arizona State on Wednesday at the Pan American Center. Pack now sits at 1,482 points after scoring 20 on 8-17 shooting from the field.
Â
NM State (3-9) jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Sun Devils (9-2) after buckets from
Rodrea Echols and
Aaliyah Prince. ASU jumped in front 5-4 before the Aggies scored five quick points to go up 9-5 with 6:31 in the quarter. However, Arizona State closed the first on a 9-2 run to lead 14-11 at the end of one quarter.
Â
The Sun Devils clamped down defensively in the second quarter as they built a 32-15 lead at the half. The third quarter was much of the same, with the ASU offense coming alive, and the Aggies trailed 53-21 heading into the fourth.
Â
Echols then opened the fourth with a three-pointer that started a 19-5 run to make the score 58-40 at the 4:01 mark of the fourth. However, that was as close as the Aggies would get for the remainder of the game for a 70-47 final score.
Â
Pack scored a game-high 20 points with 10 rebounds for second-straight double-double. The senior from Phoenix now sits at 1,482 career points, good for ninth in program history.
Â
Aaliyah Prince added 10 points and Echols dropped nine. Arizona State edged NM State in the rebounding battle, 37-32, and shot 43.3-percent to the Aggies' 39.2.
