LAS CRUCES, N.M. – NM State football defensive back
Shamad Lomax will have an opportunity to show out in front of NFL scouts, player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches.
Â
The draft-eligible senior has accepted an invitation to the College Gridiron Showcase. The week-long event, scheduled to run Jan. 3-8, 2020, is hosted inside McNair Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
Â
Lomax wrapped up his decorated career as an Aggie this past season. A Sun Belt Conference Third Team honoree and Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team member in 2017, he recorded 273 total tackles, including 142 solo takedowns and 10 tackles for loss, in 47 games for the Aggies.
Â
The native of Due West, S.C., logged 29 pass breakups and seven interceptions in his collegiate career. His four interceptions during the 2017 season led the team, as he helped the Aggies snap their 57-year bowl drought with a victory over Utah State in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.
Â
A team captain during his senior campaign, Lomax totaled 66 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss in 2019. The defensive back started all 12 games and tallied a team-high 11 pass breakups.
Â
Lomax is the fourth Aggie to earn an invitation to an all-star game this postseason. Running back
Jason Huntley and defensive back
Ray Buford Jr. have accepted invites to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, while running back
Christian Gibson has confirmed his spot at the Tropical Bowl.
Â
NM State sent three student-athletes to last year's College Gridiron Showcase. Former wide receiver
Johnathan Boone, defensive back
