Davis Selected to 2020 AFCA 35 Under 35 Leadership Institute

Inside receivers and assistant special teams coordinator Chili Davis was one of 35 coaches chosen to participate in the seminar.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Coach Chili Davis is headed to the American Football Coaches (AFCA) 35 Under 35 Leadership Institute.

The Aggie inside receivers and assistant special teams coordinator was one of 35 selected to attend the program, which is aimed at identifying and developing premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession. Selected participants are invited to attend the one-day institute that features a curriculum of interactive lectures focused on topics specifically tailored to emphasize leadership in the coaching profession, ethics, influential responsibilities, career progression, and family balance.

Applicants had to be born on or after January 1, 1985, and must be currently serving as a high school head coach, two-year college full-time assistant or head coach, or NAIA/NCAA (all divisions) full-time or head coach.

Davis, who completed his second season as a full-time assistant coach at NM State in 2019, coached the tight ends before working with the wideouts this past season. He was an offensive graduate assistant during NM State's historic bowl run in 2017, working with the wide receivers alongside assistant coach Cory Martin.

The Chester, Va., native spent the 2016 season at Fordham, where he coached the cornerbacks. He spent the 2015 season at Louisiana Tech, serving as an offensive graduate assistant and working with the running backs. Davis got his start in the coaching ranks in 2012 as an assistant to the head coach at his alma mater, Campbell University.

The AFCA 2020 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute will take place Sunday, January 12th, at the AFCA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
